  1. Oh.... I didn't realise that. Got any good links to any in-depth technical articles about that sort of thing? It'd be good to put my understanding right!
  2. I'm curious - I know that a fair few planes in Lock On have a thrust/weight ratio greater than 1, and should therefore be able to accelerate vertically. No matter how hard I try though, I can't seem to do it.... Is the thrust of the engines in the sim fudged at all?
  3. OK, trying from the basic "free flight" shortcut on the main menu screen seems to work. The 'plane still behaves weirdly in the pre-built training mission, but in a new mission it seems to work fine! I've mapped trim to 4 "up-down-left-right" buttons on the gearstick controller of my Logitech G25 steering wheel, which are right under my left hand (no HOTAS for me yet!), and seem to work fine. Might the training mission anomaly be due to the fact that I'm running the latest patch of FC, and the tracks were recorded using an earlier version? I've experienced strangeness in other training missions due to this...!
  4. That's the problem - I was fully expecting to have to trim it manually, but my trim buttons didn't make any difference. I could indeed hit H, and the aircraft would stay level, but as soon as I hit H again to disable altitude hold, it would pitch straight down again.
  5. I've been having a bit of a play in the Flanker this evening, trying some of the training missions, and I'm having problems controlling the pitch of the aircraft. Whenever I let go of the stick, it will gently pitch down into a steady dive, and continue pitching downwards until I pull back gently on the stick to level out. In order to maintain level flight, I have to keep a small amount of pressure back on the stick, which makes following waypoints, and landing next to impossible. It looks like a trim problem, but my trim buttons were totally non responsive and made no difference whatsoever to the pitching down problem. Is this normal Su-27 behaviour, or have I found a bug?!
  6. Beaming = flying perpendicular to my flight path? I've just discovered the vertical scan [3] radar mode, and the boresight [4] mode, which makes things easier once the enemy gets in close range. I hadn't really realised that the main Long Range Search mode was supplemented by a few different auto lock modes for closer range stuff. Never flown modern jets in a sim before, all my experience has been old propeller driven stuff!
  7. I think I am adjusting my radar scan vertically, I've mapped Ctrl and hat up/down to move the two altitude scan markers on the left of the screen up and down, and Alt and hat to use the target designation cursor. I'll have to have a play, it's hard to spot them - I just got shot down a second ago, but got myself a MiG25 first!
  8. Hey guys, I'm Tim, been playing Lock On a few days now, having not played any flight sims for years! I've been reacquainting myself with basic flight, following wapoints, approaches, landings - all that jazz. Also been running through the F15 tutorial missions (y plane of choice for the moment), and am gradually working out all the radar modes, different A2A missiles, and becoming more confident with them. Now, I'm fine when it comes to shooting down transports, I can find them on the radar, lock a couple up, dispatch some weapons, they go down no problems, but I'm having difficulty in engaging enemy fighters. I usually can't find them, and have them sneak up behind me. I don't want to get drawn into using the overhead map view, and I'm not using labels, so how on earth does one go about finding an enemy fighter? I often see an enemy fighter in my top right radar warning display, but when I turn to put his bearing directly ahead, my radar screen to the left will display nothing at all. I usually end up trying in vain to find the enemy fighter for about 30 seconds, before seeing tracer flash past my window, shoot me up, and force me to make a gear-less emergency landing on a nearby road.... Any top tips for finding and getting into good positions on enemy fighters?
