  1. I hope you're not talking about me. If it's the case, let me rephrase my post to ease your pain a little bit (although you'd better simply stop watching this topic if you suffer so much)

In the videos I've included, we can notice that even the same recorded scene can produce radically different sounds depending of microphone type and location. That means that the OP's point is a lost cause anyway. However it would still be interesting to hear about the SME guy's experience, just for the enjoyment to know more about the job. Could the gun sound be heard at all ? Did it produce bass/high pitched noise only ? Could vibrations be felt ? I don't ask directly because I always have the feeling to commit a sacrilege every time I post in the F-14 forum…

So let's pretend the base sound of the DCS F-14's gun is realistic. I'm just confident that an acceleration effect should be implemented to help immersion. In the videos I've posted, we definitely can hear that. The lack of acceleration phase is the only issue I have with this virtual gun. That's all I needed to say in the first place, and I'm sure that will not stop the planet to spin.

  2. What about barrel rotation acceleration ? In DCS F-14, is it ok to sound like it spins at full rate instantly when pressing the fire button ?

  3. Use the F10 ruler to measure the DCS "true" heading of the runway. Add the magnetic declination to this value if the aircraft you're using can't display "true" heading.

To get the magnetic declination, align your aircraft perfectly on the runway just before taking off, and read the difference between the magnetic compass and the F10 heading.

Magnetic declination varies across location and time. So if you plan to land far away from the start position, the declination might be too different to use for accurate navigation. And if you play a scenario in the 50's, the kneeboard's 2011 charts become toilet paper.

  4.

    Wow.

Tell me Jammer, how much do you enjoy someone who is ignorant of the nature and details of your work telling you how easy it must be?

Perhaps in light of the above you could show some (a) manners, (b) respect and © a shred of consideration towards a senior developer that takes the time to interface with the community?

I wish the user block feature comes back in this version of the forum, in order to stop that kind of harassment by random people considering there is trouble where there is none.

  5. I confirm that just turning off the full screen setting in options.lua can resolve the problem. I have an intel CPU.

Weird, that option was always on, and DCS is still in fullscreen mode even if it's turned off…

I can hardly remember that recently I fiddled with a dropdown selector with 3 options of some sort of fullscreen setting. Two of them were about fullscreen mode. I thought it was weird because it was already full screen. But I can't manage to find this selector again…

  6. What disturbs me the most about this self sanctimonious post is the arrogance to add a poll to your personal opinion like it matters or something. We all have opinions and they all stink... I am sure every other module you meticulously critic (not troll) in their forums have or will tailor their birds just to suit you.

Well, somebody asked me what disappointed me…

I apologize to everyone and even the OP, but every lame post of his/hers has just gotten on my last nerve.

Every lame post of me ? I didn't know how I put myself in your crosshair. I don't even know you

I am going to look for that ignore button I have heard about before

Apologize unaccepted, you're too crazy anyway

Please mods close this topic, I hate it now thanks to this tomcat nazi

    • The most disturbing factor was the discovery of the two-crew fighter philosophy. It's hard to feel what's going on in the backseat. Experiment was needed to comprehend the effects of the commands to Jester.
    • I didn't feel that Jester is incompetent, I was quite impressed of the AI, but I hate his personality.
    • The exterior was ahead of its time whereas the interior was already outdated in terms of ergonomics. While the contemporary F-15 is still modernized today I think it was obvious the F-14 was about to die during the 2000's anyway despite the overall performances. So I think playing the F-14A in 1970's-early 1980's would give me less anachronistic discomfort. (all-gray Bs are ugly anyway)
    • I only scratched the surface of the radar. I can't say how awesome it was. But look at all those non-functional buttons and knobs in the RIO's cockpit…
    • I'm perfectly OK with analog controls but that plane feels a way lot heavier than anything else including Su-27. Have to re-learn how to dogfight. Flight model is very good.
    • The current state of carrier operations is completely killing the immersion
    • Wingman AI is totally useless, I confirm the issues already posted in the bug section
    • It's getting boring very fast if played in the front seat all the time
    • It's the most difficult aircraft to refuel mainly due to that enormous front canopy frame blocking the view. I'm all OK to accept the original flaws but sometimes the frustration that comes out is just unacceptable.
    • The HUD sucks. I knew that before and I thought that was a cool aspect of the simulation, but really, it sucks. I turned it off during non-combat situations.
    • Pilot stick blocking the view of the bottom screen. I would love to hear that it's a modelisation error from HB
    • I fear that it needs to be played with friends online to better enjoy it. My schedules and patience barely allow it.
    • The official manual: 250MB of indigestible pile of text

Actually what disturbs me the most is the huge differences between my expectations and reality, and how I just can't replicate the same amazement than what is expressed by people here. I can't say it will become my main module. The price tag doesn't help either. I'm still fascinated by the aircraft and I want to practice it again. But first, I'd like to check if there is still a way to get enjoyment out of it.

BTW I could manage to fly it 5.4 hours with it… most of the time consisted to read documentation and watch tutorials

  7. Maybe there is a way to mitigate this by scripting every single Jester command so you can do it from the front seat

Interesting, but what kind of Jester command are you talking about ? What do you want to achieve more specifically ?

I only played that module during the free week-end so I can't check by myself.
