  1. Thanks for all the replies, happy new year!
  2. Can we expect an AESA radar on this version? And what about the IRST?
  3. Beethoven ode to joy, naturally!
  4. Will is be able to detect infrared-guided missiles too? And if yes, how would it work?
  5. Thanks for the reply, although I am not sure this is helping me! Can I play this campaign if my DCS was installed with Steam?
  6. This campaign looks great and I would love to try it out. Is there any way to play it with a Steam installed DCS?
  7. Pete, would you be kind enough to share your ILS mission file? That would be fantastic... I still struggle a lot to find the final turn point with the needle. Besides I feel my flight control are not stable at all. It would be to easy to blame the joystick but I have never experienced that on a flight simulator before. I wonder if I need to adjust something right...
  8. I will make some training missions to practice, Are the Final Approach Fix (FAF) and Initial Approach Fix (IAF) ILS landmarks (i.e. they define of the ILS slope is)? Or basic waypoints? I will try that. Actually it seems way more reasonable to intersect the runway direction and proceed with final turn according the CDI needle rather than dogfighting with a cross on the HUD Many thanks
  9. So I have started the FC3 campaign.... The base is covered by a thick opaque fog and there is no way to land without ILS. The problem is that... the ILS is.... terrible.... I spend forever following this f******g cross on the HUD going anywhere, without any consistency with the ATC instructions. When I eventually get in the glidepath it's already too late: the runway appears right in front of me and I cannot land (well I managed to land in mission 1 but it was a miracle). How should I use the ILS properly? Cheers...
  10. That's what I wanted to know, thanks!
  11. Well I've got a theory: maybe in STT there is no actual lock, but just a target designation, i.e. the system isolates one radar contact which is locked on only when firing the missile
  12. That is where I am confused. The STT mode is activated after the lock and prior to the launch. When you are locked, the RWS starts making noise, and after a few second you get a "missile" alert. What I don't understand is how the RWS can distinguish the "lock" and the "missile launch"
  13. Sorry I was unclear. I was talking about when I am the target of I missile
  14. I agree on the AI cheating However I am quite sure I get Fox 1 missile warnings when flying in SU-27 and F-15. I mean, most of long range missiles are Fox 1, and I receive tons of long range missile warnings and I can hardly believe they are all Fox 3...
  15. I am totally puzzled How is a targeted plane alerted of a Fox 1 type missile launch? To my understanding, the RWS alerts the pilot when an hostile radar is locked at him/her. But this locking phase happens prior to the launch. How can the RWS know the missile has been actually launched? Conversely, a Fox 3 type missile has its own radar tracking system, and the target plane should get a warning only when the missile has locked. However it seems that in DCS, at least to my experience, the missile is detected as soon as it is launched. What sort of witchcraft is that? Or is there anything I don't understand? (I am a beginner so feel free to lecture me)
  16. Just did that, I manually mapped \ to the communication menu. Great, thanks! By the way, how am I supposed to know which airfield I am flying from? I am puzzled by this. Do you mean that FC3 planes differ from the other? For example, does the SU-27 from FC3 differ from the one from the SU-27 package?
  17. Hi Darkfire, Thanks for your reply Perhaps I was unclear: when I press "\", nothing happens at all: no communication menu. I have also tried in other missions (with less busy traffic), same problem Do I need to switch on the radio or something? But that wouldn't make sense since I can hear communications Thanks!
  18. I am quite new at DCS. I have recently acquired Flaming Cliff 3 and did the basic training missions for the SU 27. I am OK with landing, basic navigation and weapon systems (I guess...). I have no idea how to use the radio whatsoever. I have tried a couple of times to fly the SU-27 mission where you need to defend your base (I can't exactly remember the name of the mission, but it's a night mission). At the beginning of the mission I can see other SU-27 taxiing to the runway and going airborne. I am not sure of what to do there. I tried to wait a couple of minutes to see if the ATC will contact me and give me permission to head to the runway, but nothing happens. I tried to use the backslash key \ to activate the communication menu, but again nothing happens. The only thing I can do is to go my self without any clearance. When I get to the runway the ATC informs me that I am unable to taxi. Once in the air, the ATC says I cleared to take off, and my wingman follows me. Usually I get immediately shot down but that's another story... Is there anything I am missing? Cheers
