Thank you for the great campaign, it was an immersive and sometimes beautiful experience (the MissileEx mission with its sunrise comes to mind!)
I enjoyed it and I'm a much better F4 pilot than I was before. It really teaches you how to fly the F4 effectively, even though I still sometimes wallow around at the top of an 'egg' Thanks for that!
Some thoughts! Minor spoilers ahead!
- The interactive checklists are really great. I just had one or two flights with the F4 when I started the campaign, but the procedures, at least for A2A, are second nature now.
- Just like Speed & Angels, the immersion is great. The radio chatter, calling ATIS, the arming area, the details all add up.
- An eye opener were the group/section tactics. The way things work out differently really teaches you the pro's and cons of different gameplans
- If there's one thing that might take you out of the immersion, is that in some instances, the advice given to you is not appropriate for the DCS AI. Going vertical in a 1-1 situation is dangerous, since the AI can just follow you even when they are low on energy. Better to keep the fight in a fast horizontal 2 circle. It is still difficult, the AI knows when to reverse its turn, but at least you are in control. In section tactics, where one F4 can keep the bogey(s) down while the other pounces, going vertical works great. In the Have Drill excercise, the incredibly low roll-rate of the Mig 17 does not seem to be an issue when he's on your tail and you're doing 420 - 450 knot weaves as instructed.
Still, great campaign! Looking forward to Red Flag!
