  1. I haven't thrown any decent amount of time into a flight sim since I was about 10 playing A-10 Cuba, however since I got to play with a friends DK2 a couple of years ago, I've been plotting my return. When I was able to place my pre order for the CV1 the stop watch started and with estimated delivery dates the deadline was also roughed in.

So now complete here is what I've put together.

    PC

Corsair Carbide Clear 600C Inverse ATX Full Tower Case, Window, No PSU

    ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger Motherboard

    Intel Core i7 6700K

    Corsair H100i v2 CPU Cooler

ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC, 8GB

    Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD32GX4M4A2400C14 32GB(4x8GB) 2400MHz DDR4

    Samsung 950 PRO 512GB SSD

Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W Power Supply

    Win10 Pro 64b

I went for the Saitek x-55 HOTAS and Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals. Mainly because I saw value for money. I might swap later but for now as I'm learning it's more than fine.

I wanted somewhere specific to play my flight sims so started looking at premade cockpits. . .. . After finding out they were expensive as and very hard to manipulate into exactly what I wanted I fired up the welding torch. The base I'd build from would be the DXRacer FE08 Series PC Office/Gaming Chair Black & White. Comfy and bucket enough to feel strapped in.

Here is what the pit ended up looking like.

So with the computer and pit built the CV1 arrived and last night got my first ever crack into the DCS world. First impression: Holy Sh!t! Thats not exactly true as throughout the night my first second third and every impression of every flight I had was that.

After many months of waiting and buying individual components it all came together. .. was it expensive all up?? Well yea... . . Is it worth it? Definitely!

I can't really think of anything else to say except if you haven't tried ANY flight sim in VR, I can not recommend it enough. It will blow your mind!

    Cheers

  2. I'll be waiting for the reviews. If it doesn't beat the 980ti I'll buy one of those 2nd hand while I wait for the 1080ti.

Also have to remember when the reviews come out showing the benchmarks look for the directX 11 game comparisons.

My PC is pretty much built just waiting for a GPU........

  3. Here is a pretty good explanation of where AMD is heading;

Anyone who wasn't paying attention when they took over the console world missed a pretty important milestone. For me however who is in the middle of a new PC build, I'm waiting to see what sort of output Pascal has. That will let me decide if a 980ti will tire me over while I wait for AMDs next drop. CV1 doesn't arrive till July so can afford to wait.

  4. Because current SLi and Crossfire Modes all use Alternate Frame Rendering and queued frames, which caueses severe latency.

Split Screen / Side By Side / Per Eye rendering, Both GPUs are rendering at the same time, one responsible for left and one for the right. No alternating frames or queued frames, no latency.

I'm curious as to what impact NVIDA will have moving away from SLI to NVLINK is? From my understanding it has big implications for data processing?? I'm actually not all that sure I understand it.... :music_whistling:

  5. My estimate was June 30. Honestly I don't mind waiting as it gives me more time to build PC/Pit as well as giving the game companies time to do the required work to their games to ensure good VR experiences.

On a slight Oculus topic, Memory for the new PC (will be running mainly DCS with Rift) just buy as much DDR4 quad channel as I can fit in? Minimum 32gig?
