  1. I am in the same situation as you. My next buy wil be the next gen Nvidia, to make better use of my 5k+. After that i will look for what then is a good VR headset.

The 5k+ still has good life in it, it is the graphics card that is the bottleneck.

  2. New problem. Installed the latest version of pitool. Now, when i opt to wait to start room setup as i have no base station, i get the message "place the helmet in the visible,,,,,etc"

So, now the 5+ requires a base station to work.

Anyone know how to make the headset use the built in gyro instead ?

  3. Latest Beta 1.0.1.129.

And yes, there was also an update of the firmware.

Changing the settings in game doesn't change anything regarding the problem, even on lowest settings.

I think I will give up the Pimax. Since I own the device I almost stopped playing DCS because it is unplayable for me. Maybe I will try the Rift S.

Strange, i have a 1080, running at 100% ss and getting steady 45 fps. Have you tried reinstalling DCS ?

  4. Lets for arguments sake say that these lenses remain to costly for the mass market. Can you still obtain the same image quality as this ?

You will need higher resolution panels to compensate for loss of screen real estate, you will also need more sophisticated software to compensate for distortion.

This will in turn require more gpu/cpu to run, so in 1-2 years this image quality will be available in a consumer headset.

For my self and my 5k+, there is still huge headroom in terms of pushing supersampling above 100% and getting in game settings maxed out.

  5. Shortcut, I think your sample size is representable. If you get a working unit, you will be pleased as pudding like me. However, Pimax is a young company, having trouble catching up to the success of their product, and you may experience some issues with overall support.

  6. Don't believe the hype! It's all a bunch of smoke. We are two years out of seeing a unit worth getting for DCS that is.

Well, I have a 5k+ and it is a great, I will have fun with it for years to come. It is not perfect, but it will take years for the competition to offer something better in this price range. Even then, I think Pimax has something better up its sleve. Trust me, Pimax is here to stay.

  7. I got the 5k+ and the standard 1080. Not spending on a gfx card as spending on even a 2080ti will give the desired performance.

This is a DCS problem and I will wait for ED to update the graphics engine so I know what kind of card I need.

Silly to spend on this generation card if it turns out in 6 months, you need next gen. :)

  8. I have the 5k+ and a 1080. From my experience there is a large difference in frame rates between the F18 and f86.

The F18 is a slideshow for me, while the F86 is nice and smooth, totally playable.

Seems like the added physics of radar and moving map really bogs DCS down in VR.

  9. Over in the VR part of the forum I and other Pimax 5k+ owners discuss it's performance. It seems to me that owners of 2080ti cards only get a marginal benefit over my 1080. What I expect from Vulkan is to leave a large margin in how these cards perform, as more of the physics calculations are handled by the GPU.

So, even if I expect better performance on my 1080, the major benefit will be in making the upgrade actually worth while.

It is really where DCS fails to make use of the latest GPU's, it shows where it falls behind the curve.
