Ah well, I already ordered the SSD and I need it anyway, and my computer is incredibly slow right now (even browsing the web or file explorer takes forever), so hopefully the new SSD at least solves that issue. Will try installing 2.5 this weekend and see if the stutters go away or are, at the very least, reduced.
-
That's good intel - thanks Weltensegler. I've actually had an issue with stutters in the previous iteration of DCS as well (I opened this thread back around May of 2017). Hopefully the new SSD gets it to a point where it's at least playable, even with the occasional frame drops almost everyone is experiencing. I would definitely be happy with that! Cheers, SharkBait

Sorry to necro an old thread, but with the release of 2.5, I've decided to try tackling this issue again (I had given up on this during the last 7 months). I've had reason to believe that my PC has been slowing down because of an unhealthy SSD (e.g., high disk usage, unresponsiveness even though there are no applications running, problem persisting even after clean Windows installs, etc.). I currently have a PNY SSD but have just ordered a new Samsung Evo. I plan to switch out my old SSD and re-install everything (including DCS) from scratch using the new SSD. Will let you know if the problem goes away!

No luck... didn't work for me. When they say there are literally a million possibilities, they aren't lying! I wished that I could be flying with you, but it seems that it will have to be much later in the future... either this problem is fixed in 2.0, or I will have to get a new system (which I don't plan on doing anytime soon). When I have more time on my hands I may try learning how to update my BIOS and give that a shot, but we'll see... I don't want to risk wrecking my system when I have other games I very much enjoy playing just to try DCS without stutter.

Just an update - the developers got back to me. They were requesting more information, so I provided it to them just now. They asked for: DCS.log dxdiag report task list while running DCS screen shots of DCS graphics settings and NVIDIA control panel settings We will see what they come back with.
-
BuzzU, I followed your thread but could not solve it so updated my NVIDIA graphics driver to 381.65. Still, no joy... I just submitted a ticket with support.

I tried the suggestions on here as well but unfortunately I am still experiencing stutters with no sign of improvement. I also watched the video posted above regarding engaging all cores, but my settings already showed that all 4 of my cores were selected, so not much gain there... Can someone show me where I can find the logs so that I can also send it to the developers? A path to your log would be a good example for me to follow. I located the DCS folder in file explorer but am having trouble identifying which is the log file. Thanks all!
-
Ah, gotcha. Yes, I think I can find it. I will also submit my log with support and see if they can help out...
-
I don't know how to access the log. Where do I find it?
-
Thanks for the note Guitrz. Unfortunately, I have tried pretty much every combination of V-Sync options to no avail. BuzzU and I will try to send our logs to the devs and see if they have a solution.
-
Thanks for the note hughlb! I have not tried it on Nevada. Frankly, I don't feel like spending additional money on this if there's a good chance that it won't work properly anyway. I might do what BuzzU did and send my logs too. BuzzU, where did you find your log?
-
Is there a way to pull a diagnostics log that we can send to the developers? Hopefully they can help out as well... Not trying to put you guys (OnlyforDCS, javelina1, BuzzU, et al) down - I really appreciate you guys' help so far -, but just figured it will also be helpful ask the devs to look into this.
-
I think there may have just been loading issues. If you have windows 10 I guess updating to 381.78 won't be harmless, but then again it sounds like it doesn't fix the stutter issue on DCS. ):
-
Javelina, mine is 378.78. I haven't updated to 381.65 because there were reports that it was problematic with IL2: Cliffs of Dover...
-
Thank you for the suggestion, cthulhu68! No joy unfortunately...
-
Thanks Pedro! Unfortunately, this did not work, either ):
-
OnlyforDCS, thanks again for leaving a note. I tried what you suggested - I shut V-Sync off in the game, and set V-Sync in NVIDIA control panel to Adaptive. Then, after going in-game, I hit Alt+Enter, after which the screen went black for a second and came back on. Unfortunately, the stutters / micro-pauses remained... In the meantime, I will try a couple more of the suggestions on this thread.
-
BuzzU, thanks for responding! I'm still at work so cannot try it out just yet... I hope it works out for you too. It's a shame that you have such a great system and yet the game STILL stutters for you (by the way, what you described is exactly what I am experiencing, I think; I turned on the FPS counter after filming the video and mine hovered at 100+ fps but then every second or so would dip to ~20 and back up again; so yes, it does look like split second pauses... very prominent in the video at around the 00:58 mark). I'm sure there must be something about our systems that is similar so that it is causing this... And if we can help fix it, better for other future DCS players who may come to experience it!

OnlyforDCS, Ok, I will enter the game, start an Instant Action mission, and hit Alt + Enter. I will set the V-Sync on the NVIDIA Control Panel to Adaptive before I start up the game, but do I set the V-Sync in the in-game options to Off? I might as well post a screen shot of my options screen when I report back. The game is indeed installed on my SSD. I am not at home so cannot try it yet, but will do so and report back as soon as I do. Thanks for being patient!

OnlyforDCS, will do! Just to be crystal clear, is that Alt + Enter after the game fully loads?

Hello all! I recently discovered DCS World and am thrilled about it because I always wanted to fly a P-51 Mustang. Over the weekend I bought the P-51D Mustang from thee ED website and installed DCS World 1.5.6. I have successfully installed the Mustang module as well but have been experiencing performance issues. I am experiencing stuttering (sharp FPS drop every second or so). The video below is me flying the P-51D Mustang, but the stuttering also exists in the other 2 free modules (Su-25 and TF-51D). This is the Instant Action/Take Off Batumi mission, though I also experience the same stuttering in other missions as well. I have tried low, medium, and high graphics settings. I have tried turning in-game V-Sync on and off, as well as NVIDIA control panel V-Sync options (On, Off, Adaptive, Adaptive (Half), Fast). All with same results. If someone can help me iron out this problem I would truly appreciate it! It's a beautiful game and I'd love to be able to experience it without this issue! System Specs: CPU: Intel i5-4690k 3.5 GHz Quad-core GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 G1 Gaming 6GB Driver: NVIDIA 378.78 RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 4GB x 2 HD: PNY 240GB SSD OS: Windows 10 Pro Resolution: 1920x1080 Monitor: Asus VX238H 23 inch YouTube Video Link
