  1. Overall I'd say the flight model is great (not a CE2 pilot so I wouldn't know) but as far as an advanced aerobatic plane is concerned you can do all the things, lomcevak, stall turn and all the other fun ones. My issues are due to ground handling. If you taxi onto the grass and then touch the brakes at all it sticks you permanently. The other thing is that if you push the stick forward on takeoff its actually impossible to nose the prop in (will post a video) which goes against my knowledge of physics lol. I was going 150 mph on the ground with full forward stick and it didn't nose over. The landing gear too seems way to springy but that might be how it is so I can't really know.

Edit just to add to the other commenters. It's an extremely forgiving taildragger due to the steerable tailwheel that breaks out when required.

Whew!! I was afraid it was going to act like FSX :lol::lol::lol: Good to hear it can do those maneuvers, looking forward to trying them out!

  2. There are definitely some quirks with the flight model, but overall I'd say it's good fun!

What sort of quirks? I'm at work and have not been able to fly it out. Looks like a lot of ground looping has been taking place judging from the photos of a # of them lying on their tops

  3. I've been researching this issue and apparently since I am still in the "dark ages" and using Vista this error pops up with software that no longer works with Vista.. wonderful... I have all this time and money invested in purchasing add-ons and now I"m going to have to upgrade.. Just what I wanted to do....

  4. After updating to the latest version of NTTR I'm now seeing the message "The procedure entry point K32getprocessmemory Info could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.dll."

I have tried updating the C++ libraries using the link provided in another post on here, also downloaded Kernel32.dll and installed in the SysWow64 and System 32 folder but still seeing the error.:helpsmilie:

Any ideas? I miss flying in Nevada. DCS 1.5 still works like a champ.

  5. Works fine. no difference in experience from 1.5. Great FPS thus far, though i have not explored much yet in 2.0.

That's good to hear! Thanks. I'm going to try again tonight, I think I was having an "off" night last night after downloading and installing. A computer restart was probably in order after being on all day and downloading but I was too tired to try LOL!

  6. I see the specs for DCS World2 lists Windows 7 or greater OS. Actually, Vista works too, thus recommend including it in the listing.

How is it performing under Vista as far as FPS, etc? I've also got Vista Ultimate with similar rig specs as yours and finally gave up last night after waiting what seemed like forever to load from the mission editor, realizing I hadn't set the mission up correctly and trying to exit which took another 5 minutes it seemed.

  7. I would highly suggest you ditch Vista, lot of overhead in that OS. Windows 7 64 bit is much leaner and meaner. I personally run Windows 8.1 64 bit, and really like it, but lot of folks don't care for it. Windows 7 is far better though than Vista.

Definitely get a better GPU, even with your 920 cpu your current graphic card is holding you back - big time. You may also have some headroom for overclocking your cpu a little farther.

Fwiw, DCS 1.5 loves, and makes very good use of, my GTX 970 card.

Thanks Don, I think I will see how well the card does with Vista, but definitely won't rule out upgrading to 7. I've got all of the "extras" in Vista deactivated (UAC, etc etc etc) so it might not hold the performance down too much ??

I decided to go with the 970 after reading all of the comments on here about how well it plays with DCS.

  8. Oh my gosh, that is an ancient graphics card you have there. You CPU look decent though, and Vista does support DirectX11 so you should be able to fully enjoy a GTX 970. Just prepare yourself for an amazing performance increase, considering how old your current card is :)

By the way, your Vista installation is the 64-bit version, right? DCS no longer support 32-bit you see.

haha!! yes, it IS ancient, but was top of the line several years ago :lol:

Amazing how fast technology changes. I do have the 64 bit version of Vista and will roll with it to see how things go. That way, I can take the OS upgrade money and add more RAM as I'm currently at 6 GB. :D

I'm looking forward to receiving the new card next week and will hopefully have time to get it installed before heading off for a weeks R&R at the beach. Can't wait to see how good everything looks after getting a decent card !!

  9. I'm going to upgrade to a GTX 970 in order to fully enjoy DCS. My current OS is Vista. I downloaded the 1.5 beta and L-39 last night and it seems to work fine.... so far.

Do I really need to upgrade to Windows 7 as a minimum, or will it work fine in Vista? I'm wondering if Vista will let me get the full use out of the GTX 970, or if there will be other issues down the road, game crashes, etc because I'm in Vista.

My other system specs are, core i7 920 oc'd to 3.4 Ghz, and currently running a GTX 9800+ card.

  10. I understand that people have already received the manual...but as near as I can tell, these are all in EU (with maybe the U.K. getting the majority?).

I would like to support TFC directly but I am uncomfortable ordering for shipping from the U.K. to the U.S. I've seen some things shipped internationally that did not quite survive. ;)

Has anyone from the states ordered from TFC and received the manual? What was the packaging and what was the received condition?

I'd prefer Amazon ordering since I have free shipping from them and usually get overnight service with no damage.

Hi Blaster, I ordered the manual straight from TFC about a week and a half ago and received it today (I'm in the US ) I haven't opened it yet but the packaging is in excellent shape and shows no signs of being kicked, tortured, crushed, etc :D It was shipped in cardboard packaging rather than the bags the first ones were shipped with.

  11. For those that live in the United States you can order Tactical Pilotage Charts from sportys.com, click on the pilot shop entrance and then charts. Another option comes up, click on "world charts". The charts to order for the Black Shark/Lomac area are TPC F-3B, F-4A, F-4D $23.95 usd for all 3 charts, but they're 1:500,000 scale. I ordered a set to have since they can be used for Lomac now and then Black Shark once it's available .

  12. here you go.

I've just finished reading them both. Great books, though they do seem to contridict each other, though I guess oppesite squadrons trying to out do each other you will get that.

    Both highly recommended

Thanks! They've been added to my wish list. The wife has been asking me to find a couple books that she can buy me for Christmas, I think I just found them. :pilotfly:

  13. ^^ as an interesting side note,

I read a book ("Apache") from a British apache driver using the Mk1 Apache (AH64/D with british Engines and counter measures) in Afghanistan 2007, and on the whole tour he only turned on the FCR once, and that was to use the synthetic aperture to map the ground layout in a sand storm.

They used laser guided hellfires, rockets and 30mm exclusively driven by the TADS.

I think manual navigation modes and laser guided weaponary are still the norm in this day and age making the KA 50 quite relevant and equivalent to western modern attack helo's.

Any chance you could post the name of the author or the ISBN number? I'd like to read that one. I've searched on Amazon.com and can't find it there. :helpsmilie:

  14. Black Shark (English version!) will be at the FlightSim Weekend, 1/2 Nov at Lelystad Aviodrome Holland, on the Dutch Flankers Display Team stand. see http://www.fsweekend.com

We will be showing on a laptop (one of my test systems - see below), and a desktop PC hopefully with controls from Left-Side, see http://www.leftside-limited.com

Also, we may have a hard copy of the manuals to inspect, assuming:-

    a) they are completed in time

    b) I can buy enough print cartridges!

Does this mean the English version is complete and just awaiting ratings by the various people before it can be released ? :D
