  1. OH yes, nice find, Now only question is will it play OGG or MP3, God I hope MP3, I can hear it now, bs 155 going in for attack, Roger wait one, Just need to tune into ride of the valkeries. :)

I think its ogg but im not sure (theres info on this somewhere), ogg has better compression and dynamic range i believe it more suitable for this.

There is a nice editing/conversion tool out there called audacity i used to edit/convert sounds for missions (in other games).

  2. If they want to build them all as complex as the KA50 it will take time, i wouldnt want to wait for the completion of one aircraft while theres another one ready and waiting, besides with 1 single aircraft we already have so much to learn, 2 at a time would be overwhelming :D.

  3. Hence, whilst I believe ANY copy protection can and will be bypassed, loyal customers will still accept the hassles associated with aggressive CP, and shell out the cash.

But... if the CP fails to protect the product anyway why should we (paying customers) have to bother with reactivations, running out of activations, waiting for more activations..

  4. I'm not technically inclined, but I believe the FPS hit over cities is less a shadow issue (although that's part of it), but a parsing issue, as each building is an independent object. As such, flying over populated cities in Black Shark does impact performance, although the extent will depend on hardware, settings and mission content.

On the previous page someone mentioned that the sea, even if not visible (bellow the terrain) still draws reflections of objects wich are obviously abundant in the cities.

Maybe it wouldnt hit so bad if the engine relied less on CPU to do these things, the buildings and textures dont appear to be very taxing/demanding from what i've seen (in the pics only).

  5.

FPS was around 30 with everything maxed out and water = 1 (lua file) in an single a/c mission low ceilings and rain. feels smooth. I have a feeling here that it should be better.. When I launch some flares and I look at them, it's nearly a slideshow.

    ...

    Oh before anyone asks,

    E8600 3.33 @ 3.66, 8G Ram, 2x750G in RAID0, 4870x2, Vista x64, 22' (1680x1050) X52Pro with rudders and trackIr4 Pro with the clip.

A system like that and 30 fps only? Im scared :(..

  6. Would like to have info on that subject too.

I have a C2D 8600 (Grafik: 8800 GT ideling around at 1920x1200) and at stock speeds, i drop as low as 11 !!!!! fps over cities on a clean BS install. It is only when i oced it to 4 GHz that i get playable FPS in the lower Twenties. (settings all maxed out except water @ HIGH)

    S~

    Brati

Uh oh, thats not good at all :( .

  7. It is a little odd that BS feels like a sim that has yet to be released  . In terms of user created media, it's like a ghost town :helpsmilie: .

Hopefully BS is so good that the russian players cant think about doing anything else other than flying the shark :music_whistling:.

  8. The western release date (early 2k9) seems bad for everyone.

After so many years of work its a real shame they didnt manage to release worldwide and benefit from the holliday sales. A worldwide release is a good way to prevent you know what.

But this might not be really that terrible since there is a game overflow betwean now and the end of the year, and DCS BS might have a better chance of catching the interest of casual gamers when there arent so many popular titles in the spotlight (dry season).

Thinking about it dry season can actually be a good period to promote and release a simulation and catch the interest of normal gamers.

Sim enthusiasts are guaranteed sales already :joystick:.

  9. The latest DRM screwups are turning many potential customers away from products while doing squat to prevent illegal distribution, infact this CP system will affect the owners or legitimate software more so than the rest.

I cant see myself sending mails to tech support and having to wait days or even hours to be able to run the products i paid for. What if a product is no longer supported but i still have interest in it? I dont mind activation, i just dont want limited activations, atleast forever..

    Complaining is easy though..

The other day i asked myself what would i do in order to secure a product as best as possible with minimal hassle for the customer?

What i imagined seemed good for a product such as this (high replay value, to be expanded and supported in the future).

The product release is the critical time for things to go wrong, its the time when a copy might be leaked and made available before the product even ships to retail (real bad) and its also the time when demand is at its peek and so are the risks.

For the initial release powerfull and even user restrictive CP methods should be used as long as they are effective BUT these should be removed further down the road.

Some time after release the protection should consist of restricting support for bad copies, such as patches, expantions, etc, as the product grows and becomes better people will want the whole thing in its best possible shape.

The DCS idea is really good and since the product is meant to be improved and expanded in the future it will hopefully sell for years to come.

  10. I just read this from the faq:

Q: Will DCS: Black Shark be Vista-compatible and take advantage of multi-core processors?

A: The initial release of DCS will use a heavily modified version of our TFCSE simulation engine that will run Windows XP SP2 and Vista equally well using either DirectX 9 or DirectX 10. However, DCS versions based on the TFCSE engine will not take advantage of DirectX 10 unique features or multi-core processors. We plan however to provide such features in our new simulation engine that is currently in development for later versions of DCS.

I dont get it. The DCS base product will ship with the KA50, later on expanded with new aircraft (and terrain?) packs and then transition the whole thing to a new graphics engine? sounds a bit complicated :noexpression: .

  11. hahah for that price you can have 8 cores , 32gig of ram, not your 3gig or whatever windows xp really supports (the great ram swindle) and run it on your NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB if your really cashed up.

8.2% of the market and climbing :P

Custom build PC's are the way to game, good hardware at a good price with no need to beg for compatibility in game forums, say no to laptop gaming :D , for 2k one deserves a better game experience than that of a laptop/notebook..

  12. Amazon has the CH fighter stick + pro throttle combo for about £210 (€266) :noexpression: yikes!

The Cougar hotas for £150 (€190).

    And the X52 for £90 (€114).

The cougar doesnt sound that expensive anymore (in comparison that is) but during my searching this forum was not the only place where people disaproved its guts.

Honestly im not going all out with a home pit or anything, at first i was thinking that i could handle BS well enough with a decent stick and the keyboard (you can all throw tomatoes now) but.. im not sure.

I dont have that thing for fast moving fixed wing and im more interested in rotary but i dont know what is the best solution for the basic controls (collective, pedals and stick), so im trying to catch some insight from experienced heli simmers.

  13. I've been reading reviews and whatnot and the Cougars faults + price ruled it out.

Im not sure what to get yet but from the little i read CH's sound like durable, precise sticks and dont look like toys, wich is a small plus.

Im not sure yet if im going for a HOTAS or if that is much better setup for rotary wing, im interested in all future aditions to DCS but im more likely to stick with helicopters all the time.

Thank you for your reply :) .
