  1. Great to see you here Mover. Love your YT channel vids! ^ That would be awesome! A leveling up system such as this would definitely add a fun dynamic to the overall experience of DCS, in my opinion. I know many will say that this would detract from the true real world SIM of it all. But I, for one, would really enjoy this sort of addition.
  2. Life savers once again. Thanks guys! And for clarity, the "Action" label for these in DCS controls under "F-16C Sim" are: Target Management Switch - Up (Lock) Target Management Switch - Down (return to search/unlock)
  3. I'm having a heck of a time trying to locate the proper 'Action' label for locking a target on the radar after slewing over it. In the hornet it's "Throttle Designator Controller - Depress" and the default key for that is Enter. However, I can't find an equivalent to that in the F-16. By default, the F-16 has Enter bound to "ENABLE Switch - Depress", but that's not working. Any help would be appreciated!
  4. Yep, that threw me off for a bit, as well. The other one was 'nose wheel steering' which took me forever to discover it was under "NWS". Not sure why they are abbreviating this crucial stuff.
  5. :) Happy to put a smile on someone's face. It's always seemed strange to me that missiles utilize the gun trigger in the hornet. Using weapons release "feels right", for some reason. Overall, I have to say that the systems in this jet have been way easier to learn for me than that of the hornet. For some reason I'm more accurate with A/G in the F16 already. I still need to learn how to use the radar to lock targets properly and then take on the full cold start procedure. But I made significantly more progress today than I anticipated. Already comfortable enough to head into an online server and fly with others. Anyway, happy F16 day everyone!!!
  6. You're a life saver. That did the trick. Thank you!
  7. I spent a couple of hours familiarizing myself with the F-16 today (power up, instruments, taxi, take off, landing etc.) and I'm already in love. And I should start off by saying that I haven't been able to get the 120C to work, but I still need to work through getting a radar lock first. However, one issue that I simply cannot figure out is how to fire the AIM-9X. Just like the Hornet, I got HOTAS setup to properly toggle Master Arm on/off and setup a quick toggle for GUNS and another for Missiles. I'm now able to quickly get Master Arm on, GUNS active and fire those without issue. But when I switch to Missiles and see the right DDI switch to the 120C, I can toggle that to activate the AIM-9X. The HUD adjusts as it should and when I get a solid tone on a plane within 10 miles ahead and try to fire the missile, nothing happens. I've triple checked all my controls in HOTAS and DCS controls for the F-16C Sim but I must be overlooking something simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. 1070ti and AMD Ryzen 2700 (benchmarks just slightly better than the i7 7700K). So I think you'd be just fine with the jump to the SO+. I tried the Rift for a few days and the sharpness was simply not good, to me. However, I returned it before spending nearly as much time tweaking settings as I have with the SO+. I'd argue that had I kept the Rift and performed the 6 steps I posted in the above post, the difference between the Rift and SO+ likely would have been pretty minimal, minus the screen door effect, which is simply hardware. I've considered changing out the 1070ti for the 1080ti but the performance increase is negligible for the price. But when that 2080ti drops in price to make it slightly more reasonable in the coming months, it will be mine. At which point, the SO+ should work very well, even with pretty maxed out settings.
  9. I feel you, but don't give up! I got fed up with mine after 2 days and multiple hours of trying to tweak it with bad results. I had my SO+ boxed up and ready to be returned. Then I stumbled across this thread and gave it another shot. I'm now VERY happy with the results. I mentioned it before but here are my settings: 1) Enabling ASW re-projection in the Steam VR beta (Tutorial here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=220815) 2) Turn MSAA to "OFF" in DCS settings 3) Turn Anisotropic Filtering "OFF" in DCS settings 4) In my NVIDIA Control Panel I decreased "Anisotropic Filtering" from 8x to 2x 5) In my NVIDIA Control Panel I set MFAA to "On" 5) Changing PD to 1.2 (1.3 and up seems to drop fps below 30 constantly) 6) Shadows in DCS are turned to low, landscape preload set to 50000, ground structure settings are off. Textures, Landscape Textures and Water are all set to HIGH. With these settings I get 45fps in single player and consistent 30fps in multiplayer. But like Fargo007 mentioned previously, the 30fps in multiplayer isn't necessarily a "bad 30fps", like you'd normally expect. It feels just as smooth as 45fps. What's odd is that when I get up to an elevation above 8,000 my FPS seems to jump back up to 45 and remains there. I have no more stuttering/ghosting while playing and I can now successfully make out other aircraft from quite a decent distance. I've been thoroughly enjoying the game in VR now and couldn't go back to flat screen.
  10. I'll give that mission a try when I get a chance tomorrow and let you know. Also, how do you change the headset to 60hz?
  11. I just wanted to follow up and adamantly thank everyone posting in this thread over the past few pages. I was one of those who tried the Samsung Odyssey+ for a few days and got fed up with it, boxed it up and had it ready to be returned. This was after countless hours of adjusting settings in a seemingly futile effort to get it to work at a consistent 45fps without any stuttering/ghosting when I'd turn my head quickly in the cockpit. However, after seeing the suggestions some of you posted, as well as viewing some helpful threads you guys linked to, I now have the SO+ back up and running with a consistent 45fps and no stuttering/ghosting whatsoever. The solution involved doing 5 critical things... 1) Enabling ASW re-projection in the Steam VR beta (Tutorial here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=220815) 2) Setting MSAA to "OFF" in DCS settings 3) Setting "Anisotropic Filtering to "OFF" in DCS settings 4) In my NVIDIA Control Panel I decreased "Anisotropic Filtering" from 8x to 4x 5) Changing PD to 1.1 (1.2 and up seems to cause framerate drops for me with the 1070ti) Now, even with Textures, Terrain Textures and Water all on HIGH, I have consistent 45fps with absolutely no stuttering/ghosting. It's not only made the OS+ usable with DCS, but makes me never want to go back to a flat screen for DCS again. I should also mention that my setup consists of AMD Ryzen 7 2700 CPU, 32GB D4 3000 RAM, NVIDIA GTX 1070ti. The new found performance of the SO+, with the above settings, has even alleviated my desire to make the jump to a 1080ti. I'm a very happy camper. Thanks again!
  12. The specs that matter from my machine: AMD 7700, 32GB RAM and a 1070ti. After using Track IR for about 6 months I bought a Rift a few weeks back. Gave it a go for a few days to get things honed in. I ended up returning it because the resolution was just too much of a downgrade from my Track IR setup for me to get over. I then spent some more time reading up on other options and came across the Samsung Odyssey+. My local Microsoft Store had a couple new units in stock so I went and picked one up. Initial setup was more difficult than the Rift but once I got it configured and got my graphics settings all aligned to keep frame rate above 45 consistently, I was pretty happy. However, I ended up boxing it up with the intent to return it, due to the sole reason that when turning my head to view the sides, it had that major stuttering (apparently it's ghosting?). I also experience this big time when making a turn with the horizon in view, the horizon just looks horrible with this stuttering/ghosting. It really is game-ruining in my opinion. I tried everything I could find and read through many threads on various forums for graphics settings recommendations to fix it, but nothing solved it. So now it sits, boxed up in my home office and ready to be returned. But now you've really got me intrigued to give it one last shot. Would you mind providing more detail on how to properly "enable mmr asw solution and use the steam one"? If that solves my ghosting/stuttering problem I'll very likely keep it as that's really the only real issue I found with the SO+. I don't think this is fair at all and quite condescending. I'm far from a "child" and absolutely did not expect the headset to work perfectly out of the box. I spent HOURS digging through settings and reading forum posts to try to resolve the problem and nothing did it. After multiple days and many hours of configuration with no results, I gave up and decided the device simply wasn't worth $500 + taxes with the lackluster results I was getting. Meanwhile, the Oculus Rift darn near did work perfectly right out of the box, with significantly less setup and work-arounds required to get it to work properly with no ghosting. The only real downsides to the Rift, in my opinion, were the horrendously low screen resolution and the bad screen door effect. It had no ghosting/stuttering issues at all.
  13. I've been using Track IR (paired with a very nice 27" monitor and 1080ti graphics card) for about 5 months now. 2 days ago I decided to give VR a shot with the Oculus Rift. I'll share my thoughts below... I'll start by saying that the very first time you start the game up with the Rift and find yourself truly sitting in the cockpit (F-18, in my case), you can't help but simply say "WOW!!" out loud. I've never experienced VR before and it was even cooler than I imagined. I just sat there checking out all the gauges, dials, buttons etc in amazement as my jet started up. Once up in the air I was able to get the full sense of how it looks to take a hard turn, push into a vertical climb, or barrel roll right over a mountain top. All of those things were truly out of this world in VR and something I recommend anyone who plays DCS experience at least once, even if it's on someone else's setup. Words can't really describe it. Another few things I noticed right away... flying smoothly in formation is much easier in VR. With the Rift I'm able to get much closer to other jets and remain in formation and make necessary small adjustments smoothly much easier than with Track IR. Also, carrier landing in VR is MUCH easier. With the monitor and Track IR, I can successfully hit the deck at the right spot/air speed maybe 3/5 times in a row. With VR I nailed the landing with ease 5/5 times. Something about the immersion of VR makes the overall flying experience feel much easier and natural. Also... night flying. With my monitor and Track IR, night flying is next to impossible and not enjoyable. I avoid it at all costs. However, taking a flight at dusk in VR, especially in the Persian Gulf map is absolutely amazing. I just kept finding myself enjoying watching the sun duck behind the skyline as it went from low light to no light. Then, once the sun is down, in VR everything around you is much easier to see and the night landscape just looks great as you fly over. With track IR, everything beyond my gauges just look like a black screen. But, with all that said, I still plan on returning the Oculus Rift later today or tomorrow. While the immersion of VR is absolutely nuts, it still has a ton of drawbacks which make it extremely difficult to justify the $400 cost. For starters, trying to hit buttons and toggle switches on the fly is extremely clunky in VR. So much so that I often found myself peaking under the headset to quickly press a keyboard key to take care of it, rather than trying to fumble around with moving the mouse to the switch or button then left or right clicking it. You can only bind so many buttons/toggles to your HOTAS. And if you are like me and rely heavily on the in game chat, forget about it. I know Discord or the in game radio is ideal but hardly anyone uses it in the servers I use, so that's not really an option. I suppose if I was more efficient with the keyboard and could navigate my keyboard blindfolded (good comparison, in this case), it wouldn't be an issue. But that's definitely not me. And even then, in VR I found reading the text in the top left corner to be quite difficult, even with 20/15 vision. Also, the graphics downgrade to the Rift from a high end graphics card is night and day and too much to overcome, in my opinion. There is a massive drop in screen resolution and everything in VR looks notably pixelated. Someone said it best earlier in this thread when they compared the Rift to looking at everything through a thick screen. That's spot on. I find it extremely difficult to make out planes, boats, or even air fields if they aren't within like 5nm. It may be more realistic this way, but it dramatically decreases the experience of the game, if you ask me. Going back to Track IR with a high end graphics card on max settings was a huge relief, visually. So, in it's current form, I don't think VR (at least with the Oculus Rift) is worth the price of admission for DCS. If, at some point, Oculus or another brand release a solid 1080p or 4K option, I'll probably get it again and be very happy with it. But until then, I'll happily stick with Track IR.
