I'm getting it Same behavior here. When doing warm weather starts (actually 16C according to the temp probes in the engines prior to the start, which is not all that warm -- just over 60 degrees F for us 'Mericans) the right engine cranks up just fine and shows a transient max idle RPM of 66%, then quickly stabilizes at 65%. And the rest of the autostart sequence continues untroubled. In cold weather starts (-7C in my example) the max idle RPM never exceeds 63%, and the "RPM Fail" message pops up immediately. The autostart hangs, and just stays there with the right engine running, the left not, and half the startup process undone. No auto engine shutdown gets run, either (which'd be nice -- if the airplane is deemed unflyable by the automation, it should at least shut the busted thing down). Does anybody who's not using the autostart see this when they try to crank up in the cold?

Ah, OK. Now I get it. There are enough switch config steps to prep the engine during the normal start that it won't begin to start without them properly set. Now it appears my regular engine start command IS working as intended, too. Good. Thanks again for all the help, guys.

Many thanks to those who actually helped..... And Kunz nailed it. The autostart is LWIN-Home. The regular engine start is RSHIFT-Home. So now the autostart is working as intended. So should I be concerned that the regular engine start doesn't do anything?

As above I knew I didn't have long to wait for that. Thanks. Still didn't address the question, though. Anybody want to actually help?

I'm back to trying to learn the Harrier after some time away due to the previous engine autostart problem (CTD when battery switched on). Good job getting the fix out on that one. But between yesterday and today, I have probably tried to get the airplane started 15 or 20 times with no luck. In each case, I'm doing a cold start, sitting on the ramp, and first do the reload/rearm thing -- which was challenging enough, with the "pumps on to defuel" trick. But I did the research and got past that just fine. Then I pressed RSHIFT-Home to get the engine cranking and....nothing. Nothing AT ALL. As in, no response whatsoever. I tried this on both the Nevada and PG maps. Same result. I know, I'm using the autostart, which is regarded as a cheat by many. But I'm here to fly the airplane, not revel in the switchology for 20 minutes. My time is limited (I honestly envy you if yours is not). But why have the autostart at all if folks aren't expected to use it now and then? I did try to locate anything about this in the forum, without success. If there's something I missed, please point me there. Thanks.

Relentov -- So you're saying the electrical power is already on? I have not yet tried the internal lighting, but I could not get the nav lights or the landing light (called the gear light) to come on. When I got no reaction at all to hitting RSHF - L I of course was convinced the electrical system was hosed. But perhaps not. I'll have to experiment more. -

Thrustvector -- I can't power on anything electrical, like the lights. Be nice for getting night current in the airplane. I am certainly enjoying flying it is as-is. But in an airplane with so few systems (which is a good thing, not a bad one!), it'd be nice to have the few it has actually work. So, is the one thing that I'm not getting the fact that nobody else has electrical power, either, and doesn't miss it? -

Still no power Anybody have any insights on my trouble with the electrical power. Still no luck getting the juice flowing. Even without power, I'm really enjoying the airplane. I spent probably two hours doing pattern work and it was great fun. I'm amazed at how nicely the aerodynamics have been worked out. It's simply a joy to fly. We had a guy at the airport where I used to teach who had a Stearman. I knew he was ex-Navy, and we got to talking one day at the gas pumps. His favorite airplane of all time was the A-4. He had about a thousand hours in it. He said what made him love it so much was the fact that it was a jet, with a jet's power, but without a lot of sensitive folds in the flight envelope and very uncomplicated systems. It was an honest, simple airplane that rewarded a good appreciation of its aerodynamics with some very satisfying flying. This one does the same thing. Great work, guys. -

Guys, I found the sweet spot ...and got it started. Still no electrics, though. RSHF-L doesn't seem to do anything. -

Crowman: Still no joy Yep, not yet. When you say "right click on the throttle", exactly where on the throttle should I be clicking? It's a big knob and apparently I'm not clicking where I need to be, -

Still no luck Sorry Relentov (and the rest of you guys enduring my new-to-the-airplane travails), I still can't get the thing to start. I looked for the APU as you instructed. Nothing like that on the panel in front of the throttle. I tried to find an APU start command in the keyboard binds, but there was nothing about an APU. I tried to get power on (got that), cracked the throttle (Page Up) and ran the start command (RShift Home). The RPM cranked up to about 18%, then rolled back to Zero. Multiple tries, no success. What am I missing? -

Thanks, Relentov! No, complete detail was exactly what I needed. Since I've been learning airplanes in DCS, I have on multiple occasions run into folks trying to explain How Something Works who leave out half the essential info because "Everybody knows that!" Well, no, everybody does not know that, which is why I'm asking in the first place. Documentation writers and instructive video creators please take note: Make being complete a top priority. Or don't bother. Incomplete info is worse than none at all. And thanks again Relentov. You made my day. I can fly the A-4 the right way now! Yay! -

Love this airplane! Thanks for all the hard work that made this airplane possible. Great job. Anybody else having trouble getting the engine started? And bringing the electrics up? I checked the control bindings to make sure I was using the right commands, and I was. Weird. So I can't start on the ramp, but when I start on the runway with everything already up, it's great fun to fly. The A-4 is just one of those airplanes that I've always wanted to fly -- and I'm sure I'm not the only DCS World denizen who can say that. Thanks again, guys. -
Throttle working now Before somebody jumps in to school me on the parking brake, I should mention that I knew about that, and it wasn't the problem. Except, as it turns out, it kinda was. I was flying the Harrier quite a bit back in August, just starting to learn it, but my buddy and I decided to focus on the A-10C before moving on to the newer planes. So I hadn't touched it since then. Now that we're getting comfortable in the Hog, I came back to the Harrier. After startup I would always give the parking brake a little cursory click just before trying to taxi, and I did the same thing today. But it didn't release. After wasting a lot more time messing with it than I probably should have, all I can conclude is that the click spot for brake release is a lot touchier than it used to be. Anybody else notice that? And is there anywhere on the panel or the HUD where it says if the brake is on or off?

Thanks Doc! Engine start is all better. Now if I can just get my controller problem fixed..... I assign an axis to the Pro Throttle in CH Control Manager. Save the .map and download it into the controllers. Assign that axis as the throttle control in the sim. Get into the airplane, fire it up, and the airplane throttle cannot be moved by the Pro Throttle. It stays at 50% no matter what. I can't even move it using the keyboard controls. I've tried other axes to see if there is a difference. Nope. I even swapped the axis for the throttle with the one for the nozzle control, which was working fine. After the swap, it still does, using the axis which did not work for the throttle, which is still dead. I also verifed that my KB throttle control assignments are still intact in the sim. Now what? Am I missing something? (Besides throttle control, ha ha.......) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried it at different locations and with different loadouts. The startup sequence progresses just fine until it gets to "Battery Switch, 24.5 volts minimum". At that point I get a very sudden, complete CTD. I checked in Task Manager, and no shred of DCS World is left running. It's all gone. This happens every time (out of a dozen tries). Help, please. EDIT: I should add that this started happening today, and it occurred both before and after today's update. I've run Repair multiple times to no effect. Also, I was able to get it started and have it running last night, although I was having problems then with control axes (throttle, rudder and nozzles) being dropped repeatedly. Different problem, that. I'm only mentioning it here in the interest of giving the complete story. Let's get the engine running first before haring off after other troubles. One calamity at a time. Thanks.

And now for a new can of worms... If this one has been discussed previously I have not been able to find it anywhere. If it has, someone please point me there. And please, apologies if this is not the right place for it. I couldn't find one more appropriate. The big killer patch did not hose my profiles because I use an externally managed HOTAS (an ancient CH setup with stick, throttle and pedals). So I'm not experiencing the problems most folks seem to be. However... The big patch made the A-10C engine autostart sequencer inoperative. The big fix to the big patch...did nothing at all to fix it. It still doesn't work. And don't get on my case about using the full manual engine start sequence. I'm a real-life pilot (flight instructor, actually) and if there was a single button I could push to make the airplane all ready to fly, I'd damned well be pressing it, not running through the whole engine start checklist every stinkin' time. I'm there to fly the airplane, not revel in the switchology. I thought I paid for an autostart sequencer in the A-10C. Right now I don't have one. My buddy and I own several of the new releases, But we wanted to get into the A-10C before moving on to the new ones after running the A model for many months. Now, for no good reason, we're stuck. Does the autostart even work in the other DCS World airplanes or is it hosed there too? We were fired up for the F-14. I mean, really cranked. Front seat, back seat, very cool. But DCS is not getting another nickle out of either of us until -- or will it turn out to be unless? -- they fix what they broke.
