  1. VMFA-251 is back and recruiting virtual Marine Hornet pilots! The virtual Thunderbolts are looking for some hard-charging, crayon munching, dirt sleeping virtual Devil Dogs to tear up the skies and tear down the officers mess! We're a sister squadron of JTF-1, a large group of like-minded sim aviation enthusiasts comprised of F-14, F-16, F-15E, and AH-64 squadrons, flying mostly PvE missions and conducting training across most DCS maps. Our official training/mission nights occur JTF-wide, Tuesdays and Sundays and we're wheels up at 2000 EST. Initial expectations are basic familiarity with the DCS: F/A-18C module: startup, basic handling, basic systems knowledge, air-to-air refueling, and landing with minimal fireballs and letters to surviving kin. Having the DCS maps; NTTR, Syria, and PG are also very helpful. Being virtual badasses, we employ a bit of crass humor, so you must be 18 or older and mature. We also use most of the usual 3rd party software suspects used in the DCS MP environment and host multiple 24/7 training/mission servers. We operate a milsim-lite environment, employing realistic tactics as they apply to DCS, while keeping things fun and inclusive. We use a training syllabus and SOP's covering all aspects of flying the Hornet in DCS and we specialize in the missions of Marine Aviation as they relate to DCS: CAS using 9 lines, Interdiction, SEAD/DEAD, armed recon, anti-air warfare, etc., but we stress airmanship above all else. Fear not though, we are still virtual Naval Aviators, and conduct carrier operations IAW realistic carrier procedures alongside our sister JTF-1 Naval squadrons. If interested, swing by and introduce yourself in the JTF-1 Discord. JTF-1 Discord Hoorah!
  2. Hello.  My name is Mike with call sign "Viper."  Thank you for admitting me to your squadron.  I have the following jets:  F/A-18, F-14, and the F-16.  As for choppers, I have the Mi-8 and the Apache (when it is released).  I am brand new to DCS and brand new to flying.  I want to learn how to start the jet/chopper, taxi, land, and use all of the A-A and A-G weapons systems.

Hey Mike Force.  Apologies for not seeing this sooner.  We're currently in a severe holding pattern with all the delays and real life getting in the way of things.

We may revisit getting things moving once at least the 64 releases, but for now we're pretty much inactive.

  3. Put SCAR training to use in a live fire practical exercise.

  8. vVMFA-251 Thunderbolts, a JTF-1 Member Squadron vVMFA-251 as a squadron, and our pilots, share a passion for aviation. Not just the combat aspect, but we value airmanship and aviation as a whole: being proficient at comms, land based/carrier procedures, formation, navigation, tanking, etc. We, and JTF-1 as a whole, strive to use real procedures as much as possible. We stress realistic approaches/departures, good comms, and our flights might be a little longer with less action but more flying. When it comes to combat, we try to employ realistic loadouts, with appropriate tactics and teamwork, taking a “send more jets to the target” approach instead of “add more bombs to the jets”. As a virtual Marine squadron, we have a heavy focus on the Close Air Support mission. During 251 specific missions it is common to have a human FAC/FAC(A) directing attacks. To go along with that, we have a training syllabus that teaches these things, our FRS2100/Basic course is 3 graded check-rides: Day, Night, and Bad weather. These are check-rides that you have to pass to become a full member, and would be given 60 days to complete. None of the stuff is hard, but it does require practice and familiarity (even if you're already good at the hornet in general). The syllabus goes past this into CASE I, II, III, and further into weapons and tactics as well. This stuff is important to us: we're just as interested in aviation and flying in a professional and realistic manor, looking good and having fun while we do it, as we are in killing the target effectively in our amazing strike fighters. As a JTF-1 Member squadron, we enjoy the benefit of having a large and diverse group of people to fly with in a busy airspace. There is never a shortage of content, missions, events, etc. JTF-1 offers a vast knowledge pool in it’s members. There are many pilots, current and former military, and many knowledgeable people in general. Many people who enjoy making missions here and dedicated servers to fly on 24/7. Our official flight days are Sunday, Tuesday (Primary training night), and Thursday at 2000 Eastern with guys also available throughout the week for flying. We don’t have strict attendance requirements, but ask that people are able to show up on a regular basis at least to the Tuesday night flight time. In addition there are some other guidelines to joining vVMFA-251: -18yrds old+ -English speaking -Have a decent HOTAS and TrackIR/VR -Able to at least hit the basket at the tanker and fly a little formation, don’t have to be perfect -Be willing and eager to learn Check us out at our Discord: https://discord.gg/NJHVXnx
