  1. I'm practicing air refuelling in the JF-17. I'm still really bad at it in general, and the JF-17 is the first plane I am dedicating time to leaning it properly. But when trying to stay steady after connecting, I feel like there is a delay to small pitch inputs that results in me getting into pilot induced oscillations in pitch. I don't use any deadzone, a little bit of curvature to make small inputs more accurately. But sometimes I try to correct a small deviation and nothing happens, then I move the stick a bit more and it leaps in the opposite direction. Is some level of damping a feature of the FCS?

  2. Does it also automatically pick up custom F10 map markers to make waypoints on first start, without asking ground crew to update it?

And how does it interact for example if mission already has set waypoints, but you create F10 map markers that would over-write them. Does it give priority to mission preset or marker?

  3. Just updating findings for this patch. Defog still causes shake, that's fine, I understand it's WIP. In order to stop it, you need to reset ECS (flick off the back to norm) and set the cockpit air to cooler: either 20 degrees or less, or the manual "cold" setting. That seems to get rid of the shaking. If it's already on that setting, you may need to cycle the switch. Setting the temperature to 30 or higher also causes stick shake, even without touching defog, and goes away at lower temperature settings.

  4. There was a thread some time ago with an list of outstanding work on the JF-17 but I can't find it now. I know there are still a few issues floating around in bug reports, and some things that depend on ED (e.g. ground radar). But it must be very close to fully complete. Do we have an up to date list of things still WIP?

  5. Surprised I haven’t seen any on user files

Modders are too busy doing the opposite, making clean cockpits for modules that look like they've been dragged out of a junkyard.

  6. I don't know if the UFCP is one of the things Aeria means is missing textures, but for me it looks pretty good. F-18 one is scratched and missing paint. The texture is probably different material too. Look at real JF-17 cockpit pictures below. That panel is just a smooth moulded piece of plastic, has no texture in real life either so I think it's realistic.

  7. By "unrealistic" do you mean "not dirty"? I think the textures are final now, they were not great when released but have been updated once already. If you look at the real plane, they are new built and fresh painted, they do look like that. I like it personally, nice to sit in a cockpit that doesn't look like it's 50 years old and never cleaned.

  8. Or even HUD designation

paco said on page 1 that one definitely works.

But I'm thinking the best way to use then with buddy lase is with TPOD in SP and LSS. Fly in, pop up, target locks itself, you shoot and disappear. Repeat.

EDIT: just tested what I said above, TPOD in SP, LSS, MAN with JTAC. You don't need to do anything, point nose in general target area, wait for lock, shoot, egress, repeat. Magic!

  9. Really? Tell me more. Does it work like dumb rocket or follow the fpm or what?

No, he means if you have someone lasing for you, then you don't need TGP. The rockets need a SPI to allow launch but then track whatever laser they see. Usually the TGP provides both.

Good to know you can do it with HUD SPI. Presumably just WP also?

  10. Just tested, they work great, more or less as they use to. Will hit 7nm shots. Can be buddy lased but TGP needed to lock the general area before firing (laser to MAN so it doesn't also fire and confuse it).

Great job Deka, thank you! :)

  11. I am hopeful this will augment the ranges as well and we will see a slightly increased useful distance

The useful range is 7 to 8 nautical miles. Don't wait for the IN RNG symbol, fire early, it will usually hit.

  12. Yes, i cycled ECS and put the temperature to 35 degrees. Also note that the track playes a little longer than the video, so it was set to 35 degrees for a longer time periode than the video shows(not for minutes, but still longer ;) )

For some reason when I download your track I can't see it to replay.

So just to be clear, does cycling ECS to turn defog off stop the shaking? Because in your video it looks like it's still there after you cycle.

  13. The stick shaking today happened to me, but it went out when I adjusted the Temperature Knob.

De-fog will make your pilot shake because is getting cold Air into the cockpit I think.

Set to 30 degrees? When I do this it does not go away, even after I manually cycle ECS to turn defog off. Also in the video you can see he does the same thing, cycles ECS then increases temperature, and shaking stays.

  14. I've never bothered with them in combat, either... I trust Grumman when they, say "The schedule commands full maneuver flaps and slats as soon as the slatted wing maneuvering efficiency exceeds that of the clean wing."

Same. And IronMike does say the workload is less with them left automatic.

  15. As far as I can tell, just move it change temperature in 5C increments

Ah, I think I've been mis-reading the labels on the dial. The whole temperature increment section is "auto", set temp and it tries to keep it. Man at the bottom is either hot or cold.

    This is quite the detail...

EDIT: tried it and could get the pilot to overheat, but still had the stick shake even when it was too hot, and it did not go away with the temperature on 30 either. :(
