Grimes, Thank you. I'm disappointed, naturally.

Is there a way to make AI F/A18C Lot 20 units use specific settings for the Harpoon, rather than the basic setting? For instance, by default, the Harpoon goes skimming along at low level. As a player, I can change the configuration parameters for the Harpoon to use high level, therefore avoiding ground where, let's say, I'm firing from the opposite side of a Peninsula. I've not found a way to do similar for AI units. Is there a way to do this with AI units? Thanks! Mark

Thanks Maverick87Shaka! I didn't know or have any idea at all. I don't have a ton of bandwidth to start with, but I wanted to have an idea. I detest WIFI, and everything of consequence within my network is at least a 1Gbps standard ethernet. (I think we have some tablets/kindles that connect with wireless, but honestly, it's just the wife and me now, so no real competition for bandwidth internally.) I was thinking more about my internet connection, and what it will support. It surely won't support 10 users. So if I read you right, the more complex the mission with AI units etc, the more it gobbles up my bandwidth. That's helpful. I don't have a "community" as such. I've logged into one server, one time, I think, just to get an idea what it was like. The main reason I'm running a server at all is so I can host the mission off my main machine and let my primary machine do all the other chores it ordinarily does while I play. I was wondering what it would take to host some small-time missions and such. You've given me a good starting point. Again, thanks! Mark

Advice Needed: Setting up a dedicated server

Dawger, thanks for the tip! -
To successfully join and fly multiplayer, how much bandwidth is required for the client computer? To successfully operate a dedicated server, how much bandwidth is needed per player? I'd appreciate anybody who could shed a little light on this for me. Thanks! Mark

Advice Needed: Setting up a dedicated server
markamerica replied to markamerica's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
Dawger, Thanks! I got it running, and was able to log into it from my primary machine, and fly a basic mission! Cool! I've got some experimenting to do on the server yet. Trying to figure out how to make it perform a little better. Thanks! Mark -
Good Morning! I'm trying to figure out this dedicated server business, but being a complete novice, I've run into some problems, and I'm hoping folks here can help out. I expect there are lots of people doing what I'm trying to do, but it's largely a lack of knowledge on my part that's confounding me. To start: My intended environment is as follows: 1: Windows 10 Machine, running Server and Client, machine is a Dell 7910, 2x Xeon E5-2623 V3, 64GB RAM, Static IP on my local area network 2 Windows 10 Machine, running Client, machine is a Dell 7910, 2x Xeon 2x 2637 V4, 128GB RAM, Static IP on my local area network Obviously, the object here is to try to run one box as a server, and run the other box as a client. The client machine works fine as my DCS platform, but I play mostly in single mode mainly because I don't feel the need to publicly humiliate myself on somebody else's server. I'm sure I will in time. I have verified I can log into public servers in multiplayer mode, so I know computer #2 works fine. So I installed DCS server and DCS on computer #1. I'm finding I'm having difficulties with the following, so far: When I started the server the first time, then started the client, I created one mission for testing with the client and I was able to load it into the server mission list using the webgui. I wasn't able to connect to the server, from the client on the server machine. I tried using the local IP, and I tried using the loopback address(127.0.0.1), all to no avail. I've jacked around with the firewall rules, everything *seems* correct based on what I've been able to gather here and on other websites. I guess I'll start there. The other problem I've now encountered is that on the server, I've dropped that one test mission out, and when I tried to add missions, now it won't let me add any. I don't know if I've broken something, or what might be the case. Also, how do you contend with the issue that if you log into the DCS client on the server, your account's in use, so how do you log into your DCS account on your client machine? I saw a mention of somebody using a second account, so I created one, but of course, it doesn't have any of the various modules I own, so it errors on load about not being licensed/authorized for all those planes/terrains/etc that the second account doesn't have rights to use. What's the best approach to this? If somebody has a really concise installation tips/tricks/guide page link, I'll happily take a look. One thing I've noticed is the web gui doesn't seem to have much configurability for the server. I'm not sure how that affects my situation. Also, I should note that I don't have the server publicly listed at this point, and I've restricted users to two(2). Obviously, until I get my problems sorted out, there's no point putting the server "out there." Thanks for all guidance/assistance/advice! MA

Digital Engine, The SU-25 DOES have a radar, BUT ONLY IF you haphazardly enable the Game Avionics Checkbox in options. That's why I couldn't figure out how I enabled it. It wasn't a key combo... It was a checkbox in options between missions, and I must have reset to default or something. Don't I feel foolish? Sorry. Bun, I'll get with you shortly. Thanks! Mark

Thank you. I looked for that manual, but for some reason, I could only find the "World" Manual, which was very useful by itself. Thank you! Mark

That's probably it: RWR. How do you activate air-to-air so you can launch one of the IR missiles? Whatever I did the first(And only) time I got it to work, I hit enter and it put a red box around the enemy and I fired. Since then, I haven't found the proper key combo again. Thanks Svsmokey! Mark

That's weird. Maybe this is a terminology issue. There is a display, I saw it once, but I cannot get it back, what looks like a radar scope in the top right corner and shows air targets and missiles, I think. It carries air-to-air missiles, right? Thanks
-
This may apply more broadly than the SU25, but I have a question: How does one turn on the radar display? I'm going through controls, I know it's somewhere, but I am not finding it. Thanks!
-
Thanks Svsmokey! That did it for me!
-
Let me ask a DCS World related question: Is there a manual somewhere? It would be great if there's a PDF somewhere I could print. Thanks for any tips. Mark

Svsmokey, Thanks, I'll check it out. Varis, Like you, I'm trying to decide what's next with storage and video, and whether that will necessitate a new system to get what I want. Biggest obstacle is that I don't really have physical space for another system, so that means building or buying, because I need a machine for my work/dev stuff that has some hardcore capabilities and the ability to run a number of VMs as needed for various things. That's why I tend to like the Dell workstations, despite the fact that they don't generally do bleeding-edge stuff. On the other hand, it's been a while since I built a machine. Maybe I go that way. V/R sounds really interesting but I read things that tell me to hold off just a while longer on that. It's not to say it isn't great stuff, but better is coming.
