  1. Grimes, Thank you. I'm disappointed, naturally.
  2. Is there a way to make AI F/A18C Lot 20 units use specific settings for the Harpoon, rather than the basic setting? For instance, by default, the Harpoon goes skimming along at low level. As a player, I can change the configuration parameters for the Harpoon to use high level, therefore avoiding ground where, let's say, I'm firing from the opposite side of a Peninsula. I've not found a way to do similar for AI units. Is there a way to do this with AI units? Thanks! Mark
  3. Thanks Maverick87Shaka! I didn't know or have any idea at all. I don't have a ton of bandwidth to start with, but I wanted to have an idea. I detest WIFI, and everything of consequence within my network is at least a 1Gbps standard ethernet. (I think we have some tablets/kindles that connect with wireless, but honestly, it's just the wife and me now, so no real competition for bandwidth internally.) I was thinking more about my internet connection, and what it will support. It surely won't support 10 users. So if I read you right, the more complex the mission with AI units etc, the more it gobbles up my bandwidth. That's helpful. I don't have a "community" as such. I've logged into one server, one time, I think, just to get an idea what it was like. The main reason I'm running a server at all is so I can host the mission off my main machine and let my primary machine do all the other chores it ordinarily does while I play. I was wondering what it would take to host some small-time missions and such. You've given me a good starting point. Again, thanks! Mark
  4. To successfully join and fly multiplayer, how much bandwidth is required for the client computer? To successfully operate a dedicated server, how much bandwidth is needed per player? I'd appreciate anybody who could shed a little light on this for me. Thanks! Mark
  5. Dawger, Thanks! I got it running, and was able to log into it from my primary machine, and fly a basic mission! Cool! I've got some experimenting to do on the server yet. Trying to figure out how to make it perform a little better. Thanks! Mark
  6. Good Morning! I'm trying to figure out this dedicated server business, but being a complete novice, I've run into some problems, and I'm hoping folks here can help out. I expect there are lots of people doing what I'm trying to do, but it's largely a lack of knowledge on my part that's confounding me. To start: My intended environment is as follows: 1: Windows 10 Machine, running Server and Client, machine is a Dell 7910, 2x Xeon E5-2623 V3, 64GB RAM, Static IP on my local area network 2 Windows 10 Machine, running Client, machine is a Dell 7910, 2x Xeon 2x 2637 V4, 128GB RAM, Static IP on my local area network Obviously, the object here is to try to run one box as a server, and run the other box as a client. The client machine works fine as my DCS platform, but I play mostly in single mode mainly because I don't feel the need to publicly humiliate myself on somebody else's server. I'm sure I will in time. I have verified I can log into public servers in multiplayer mode, so I know computer #2 works fine. So I installed DCS server and DCS on computer #1. I'm finding I'm having difficulties with the following, so far: When I started the server the first time, then started the client, I created one mission for testing with the client and I was able to load it into the server mission list using the webgui. I wasn't able to connect to the server, from the client on the server machine. I tried using the local IP, and I tried using the loopback address(127.0.0.1), all to no avail. I've jacked around with the firewall rules, everything *seems* correct based on what I've been able to gather here and on other websites. I guess I'll start there. The other problem I've now encountered is that on the server, I've dropped that one test mission out, and when I tried to add missions, now it won't let me add any. I don't know if I've broken something, or what might be the case. Also, how do you contend with the issue that if you log into the DCS client on the server, your account's in use, so how do you log into your DCS account on your client machine? I saw a mention of somebody using a second account, so I created one, but of course, it doesn't have any of the various modules I own, so it errors on load about not being licensed/authorized for all those planes/terrains/etc that the second account doesn't have rights to use. What's the best approach to this? If somebody has a really concise installation tips/tricks/guide page link, I'll happily take a look. One thing I've noticed is the web gui doesn't seem to have much configurability for the server. I'm not sure how that affects my situation. Also, I should note that I don't have the server publicly listed at this point, and I've restricted users to two(2). Obviously, until I get my problems sorted out, there's no point putting the server "out there." Thanks for all guidance/assistance/advice! MA
  7. Digital Engine, The SU-25 DOES have a radar, BUT ONLY IF you haphazardly enable the Game Avionics Checkbox in options. That's why I couldn't figure out how I enabled it. It wasn't a key combo... It was a checkbox in options between missions, and I must have reset to default or something. Don't I feel foolish? Sorry. Bun, I'll get with you shortly. Thanks! Mark
  8. Thank you. I looked for that manual, but for some reason, I could only find the "World" Manual, which was very useful by itself. Thank you! Mark
  9. That's probably it: RWR. How do you activate air-to-air so you can launch one of the IR missiles? Whatever I did the first(And only) time I got it to work, I hit enter and it put a red box around the enemy and I fired. Since then, I haven't found the proper key combo again. Thanks Svsmokey! Mark
  10. That's weird. Maybe this is a terminology issue. There is a display, I saw it once, but I cannot get it back, what looks like a radar scope in the top right corner and shows air targets and missiles, I think. It carries air-to-air missiles, right? Thanks
  11. This may apply more broadly than the SU25, but I have a question: How does one turn on the radar display? I'm going through controls, I know it's somewhere, but I am not finding it. Thanks!
  12. Thanks Svsmokey! That did it for me!
  13. Let me ask a DCS World related question: Is there a manual somewhere? It would be great if there's a PDF somewhere I could print. Thanks for any tips. Mark
  14. Svsmokey, Thanks, I'll check it out. Varis, Like you, I'm trying to decide what's next with storage and video, and whether that will necessitate a new system to get what I want. Biggest obstacle is that I don't really have physical space for another system, so that means building or buying, because I need a machine for my work/dev stuff that has some hardcore capabilities and the ability to run a number of VMs as needed for various things. That's why I tend to like the Dell workstations, despite the fact that they don't generally do bleeding-edge stuff. On the other hand, it's been a while since I built a machine. Maybe I go that way. V/R sounds really interesting but I read things that tell me to hold off just a while longer on that. It's not to say it isn't great stuff, but better is coming.
  15. Anklebiter, Perhaps. I don't know anything about it. What to buy, what it entails, any of that. I like the flying part, though I do love to blow stuff up too, but the problem is that I know nothing about it, or where even to start. It's something I simply never looked into, and for the last 2 dozen years or so, I had other priorities. Assuming I was interested in going that direction, maybe even experimentally, where do I start? Also, when you say "1080," I assume you're talking about the Nvidia card and not my new TV's "1080P." We've had it a little while but it's still "new" to me. As an aside, why DID the US gov't have to force us to digital TV? I find the picture far too pixelated. Doesn't matter... I haven't watched any broadcast network affiliates since their lame-duck friends screwed satellite dish owners in late 1994 with that Home Sat Viewers Act. I hate politicians. Sorry for the OT rant. Every time I look at the TV, or think about it, I get mad. Anyway, back to V/R, but where do I start? Thanks! Mark
  16. Oh yes, okay, I remember now. It's a thread with like 50 pages of conversation. I looked around a little, but I didn't have time to read it all. I'll get to it eventually. Long and short: Is the PFIP supported? I see a ton of possibilities. I was thinking about putting a display behind the MFDs and somebody here mentioned one. I found one made by gvision that would seem to fit the bill, and bonus, it's available as a touch screen. (V8 series - 8" Touch Screen res 800x600 all USB.) That's nearly perfect. Thanks! Mark
  17. Algerad3, I apologize, I meant to reply to this, not sure why I didn't. I was looking at the Pro Flight Instrument Panel and also the Pro Flight Radio Panel(Though I don't foresee needing the latter any time soon.) I was also looking at the G Pro Flight Multi Panel. I have no idea if these work with DCS, but I saw them and thought that they were really cool. Thanks! Mark
  18. feefifofum, I take it, based purely on your and others' posts that "display exports" are subsets of the overall display that I can position around if I've got it worked out. Can't wait for that! It'll be a while, naturally, but I can already tell: I have the bug again. Yeah, I just did the basic nav lesson, and it became immediately apparent that this Sidewinder is the pits. The gimbal is so loose it rattles around, and I can tell it doesn't track right. YEp... Definitely new controls coming soon. Svsmokey, thanks, I think...LOL Hijack, it's only a matter of minutes before I yard-dart one real quick here. Aaron886, Thanks! I'm more like the chunk of ol' carbon though. Not so much diamond in this rough... I work with multiple 10G ethernet connections daily. I manage fiber channel switches and Vmware vcenter datacenter with one metric butt-ton of VMs and more cisco gear than you can shake a stick at, but almost 40 years ago, when I got into computers, I got into it for THIS. I appreciate your offer of assistance. I may well need it. One of the things about my job is that I see to it that systems work and can continue to work in almost any exigency. Unfortunately, that also makes me a bit like the stereotypical dungeon-dwelling, seldom-sees-daylight, pop-culture-deprived, nerd. My farm is kind of my refuge. I haven't minded the lack of bandwidth too much until I ran into a video of this sim last week. Don't get me wrong: I have the horses and all to keep me busy, and I do gun-smithing and welding and a little machining in my spare time, which is rare, by the way, but all things must come to an end. I'll enjoy this as much as I can, while I can. Thanks for contributing to that! Mark
  19. "Any landing you can walk away from..." Well, I couldn't resist turning the first SU25 Startup/Taxi/Takeoff training mission into a crash. I landed it, couldn't remember where something was, and while I fumbled around with it, after landing, I veered off the runway and went through a wall: I sucked so bad the first time, I repeated the lesson, but not learning much, I still insisted on landing the plane. While this was better, I think I need to take the Landings lesson before I try this again. Still wound up in the grass. Glad this is a simulation, or it would be getting expensive by now: All in all, not too glitchy, although I'm running it in a window slightly smaller than one of my monitors. One thing I noticed is that my drive performance could be a good bit better. I may need to do something about that. I can see SSDs in my near future. By the way, I dug an ancient Microsoft Sidewinder joystick out of the closet. I think my daughter used it for some StarWars Pods Racers or something. It was better than nothing....I think. Yeah, I can see that TM Warthog rig soon. I have a ton of questions now. I'll try not to be a nuisance. Thanks! Mark
  20. Algerad3, Thank you, I will be looking into that... Thanks for the link! feefifofum, Cool! I've got a pair on order. Probably will order another pair later. Too bad somebody doesn't make a small LED or something. I wonder if there's some sort of Point-of-Sales display panel like that. Bun, thanks. That sounds painful, but at least it works. Okay, so a little update from the farm. Yesterday evening, I plugged in an aircard to my cradlepoint router. I wired up two external antennae, and I got it started installing/downloading DCS world 2.5. The best I ever saw it hit before I abandoned it when I went to bed last night was around 0.5 MB/sec. It was still working along getting close to 35%-ish when I left for work this morning. It has completed, according to my bride, who humored me and checked the status on it. She said it was doing something with files when she looked(a couple minutes ago.) I imagine unpacking, etc. We'll see how that ol' "Bates 4000" handles it. I may have to upgrade to the "Bates 5000." Sigh. Thanks all, I'll let you know how it looks as soon as I do.
  21. feefifofum, Thanks, I've seen pictures of the MFDs but I've got no reference for size. How large are they? On a side note, having been a long way from any sort of gaming/sims for a long time, looking at the graphics cards these days, what's with all the slot-hogs? Does everything really need 2 slots of width? I know we need fans, but then I see this MSI Limited Edition GTX 1080, and I thought, oh, that's smart... they moved the fans to a remote arrangement, maybe that will only use up one slot's width in the card bay... And nope... Look at the edge-on view, and realize they're still using two slots. I guess that's the cost of progress...LOL
  22. Lazduc, With respect to Hughes, I have to avoid that. It doesn't work very well (or at all) with the VPN client I need for work. Tom_19d, Where the patches are concerned: good. I won't sweat them so much. I'm not all that worried about multiplayer. I'd have to spend some time getting up to speed on all of the controls and learning the sim before I burdened other people with my presence in battle...LOL What you mention about satellite solutions is duly noted. With respect to what I mentioned to Lazduc, there are some VPNs (many, in fact) that won't work over the asymmetrical connection hughes employs. If it's no good for work, I can't bother with it. Somebody told me today about a local company that has a wireless service that might work. I'm investigating. I have my doubts about whether they would offer a 4MbpsDown/2MbpsUp connection speed though. Have made an inquiry. I expect high cost for not much improvement. feefifofum, Perfect! I'm glad to know that. I like the looks of the HOTAS Warthog. Anybody using Saitek instrument panels and so on? Let me know about those third-party vendors who are selling extensions for the HOTAS Warthog. I looked at the MFG Crosswinds pedals, and they look beefy, which is good. Not sure I like the look of the TPR... But maybe I need to look more closely. Will definitely follow your advice on the graphics cards. Tell me about VR. That's a thing that effectively didn't exist last time I plugged a joystick into a PC. What's popular amongst DCS folk? I guess my thinking would be simple to install, easy to use for a noob, durable for a clod like me, and reliable. Would rather spend a bit more and have fewer problems. QuiGon, Thanks, I've been reading at the link you provided. Still seems like I'm either going to need to live with pain, or I'm going to need to find a much better ISP option. Skunk_Cabbage, Thank you! I am hunting around. It's the one thing that sucks living out in the country. People 15 miles from me have vastly better internet options... Then again, they can't walk out on their back porch nekid without generating 9-1-1 calls...LOL Not that I'm into that sort of thing... Thanks all! Mark
  23. Lazduc, Thanks, a lot to consider there. Yes, my computer does a lot of dev work and so on. I find these workstations generally more reliable because they're not so bleeding edge, but I concede the video is not really aimed at gaming. I wonder if I switch out video cards, comfortable with Nvidia, does anybody have an Nvidia suggestion? I'll consider all you've provided here. David OC, is a three year old computer really "old"? Anyway, yes, it's 64-bit, and your install/copy process sounds reasonable. I just wish they'd let you download a .zip or similar. I sure wish DCS used multiple cores. Let me see what I can figure out. feefifofum, I am very interested in what sort of high end controllers are out there, only because I feel that "full crazy" coming on. Feel free to tell me about your favorites. Being so long-removed from flight sims, I imagine there has to be some pretty terrific controllers out there by now. I think if I can work it out, I'd like to try out the base sim (DCS World) and see if I can work out the process for patching and etc. Like I said, given bandwidth constraints, it's going to be a bit painful. Oh, that's a question: Are patches cumulative? So let's say it's been a while since I patched... Now I go patch... Am I going to have to get all of the intervening patches, or just the latest? Thanks all! Mark
  24. HiJack, you're saying that I can't just download a file, but have to run some installer from the Internet? That would be fine if I was doing this on a laptop, but that Precision 7810 isn't exactly portable. Why is it assumed everybody has that kind of bandwidth? Awfully tough to exclude 95% of the world's population from one's customer base. Thanks!
