  1. I just got my Orion a few days ago, and I'm very happy with it. I had to do a bit of additional mapping and configuration to make it work, but I was up and flying pretty quickly. I'm having problems with the HDG and CRS knobs. I can see in SimAppPro that switches are activated when I turn them, and I can see the HDG and CRS switches in the DCS cockpit flipping back and forth. It looks like the Orion switches aren't enabled long enough for it to actually have an effect in DCS, though. Any suggestions on how to configure or map them?
  2. If you're getting instructions from ATC, then you can set up a TACAN with a course (use BRC for carrier), or you can use VOR and fly the indicated heading until the bearing for the VOR lines up with the runway. Other than time-and-distance calculations, there's no simple way to indicate when you've flown a certain distance.
  3. Going to go with a new PSU and the RX580. I just ran a quick test, and looking at the Performance tab on task manager, CPU is under 5%, while GPU is pegged at 100% when I'm flying around. Strange, though, the GPU is pegged a 100% even when the game is paused. Does this make sense?
  4. And I just wanted to know about a graphics card. :-)
  5. In looking through a bunch of sites yesterday and today, the power supply (PSU) appears to be the limiting factor. It's a proprietary HP component with non-standard cabling. I can upgrade to another HP PSU that's 400W, but that still is below what the 1070ti and other higher-end GPUs require. I may just upgrade from the RX550 to the RX580. I know it fits, and I can keep my current PSU. In looking at benchmarks, I'll get some improvement out of it for a relatively low cost. Since I'm not spending $500 on a GPU now, going with the SSD makes sense. I had been running DCS on a work laptop. I originally installed it on the conventional HD, but then moved it to the SSD. I did notice a HUGE improvement in load times.
  6. Thanks. I haven't really done any work with PC components in 20+ years, so I'm trying to learn some of the basics. For example, after writing this, I started to check to see if the 1070ti GPU will even fit in the case. The specs for the GPU also recommend a 500 watt power supply, but it looks like I have 350 watts. Any other suggestions on what I need to educate myself on to see if this will work?
  7. I think I've figured out what to do, but I have a couple of minor questions I was hoping to get answers to. I've been playing DCS since December 2018, and I mostly play single player, but I'm wanting to play multiplayer in the future. Graphics quality is probably near the top of why I play games like this. My wife surprised me with a gaming computer for Christmas: HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-00xx. It's certainly not a great gaming computer, but it's much nicer than the toaster oven I thought I was getting. Basic components out of the box are: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.0GHz, 16MB RAM, Seagate 1TB HD, and AMD RX 550 GPU. I found a cool site (http://www.userbenchmark.com) that allowed me to get a baseline of my performance and then to get performance estimates if I swap out various components. It looks like the most bang for the buck is to upgrade the GPU to a GTX 1070ti, which is a little over $500, which is about what I want to spend. Adding RAM or moving to SSD didn't seem to improve FPS. Obviously an SSD would help with boot up and loading times, but I can live with what I have. So, my two basic questions: I have most of the display settings in DCS at LOW or MEDIUM, and I get 40 to 60 FPS. What should I expect by upgrading to a GTX 1070ti? Second, does it matter which vendor I go for when buying this GPU? Prices vary a little, so is there any reason why I shouldn't go for the least expensive? I see that the 2070 and 2080 have been released recently. Will this drive down prices on the 1070 in the near future? Thanks!
  8. Same issue I'm getting the same issue in the FA-18. It seems to have shown up about two weeks ago. When I extend the refueling probe, I either get a bright light throughout the cockpit, or a horrible strobing flash in the cockpit. This is happening on a custom missions, and I just a minute ago tried it on the Instant Action refueling mission. As soon as the probe completely extends, a very bright (and strobing) light fills the cockpit. It seems to go away as soon as the probe starts to retract. It's bright enough with enough reflection that you can't read the DDIs.
