Many thanks guys for the great advice.
I've looked at many videos and Chucks guide but completely forgot about the Manual that comes with the Sim (another senior moment). I remember playing Janes Apache Longbow many years ago and loved sneaking up on the enemy from behind a hill using the Fire Control Radar, I would love to do the again in DCS

Similar to you I'm from the old days of dcs and well Black shark. Its a whole new world now with multi seat platforms and i think that throws allot of this off especially if you don't Multiplayer 24/7..... Even as good as the co pilot Ai is getting, to me trying to learn and master a module that is multi seat is certainly a whole different worm. Trying that now with the F15E. Apache is my all time favorite, but think I'm going to give the Apache some more maturing time before deep diving it.
I aint no learning module scientist but for all modules, i do the crawl walk run way of learning. Startup to properly flying patterns and then get to the combat stuff.
Amazing time to be a combat sim pilot so many choices now compared to back in the day it was just the shark and the hog. just my two cents
Your two cents definitely apply to me and I agree with everything you said. I feel sometimes as a more mature combat simmer things are now moving away from my capabilities especially with aircraft like the very well simulated Apache.

Hello @GAJ52. You can find several resources on the main DCS AH-64D forum section, which includes a link to Wags's youtube playlist. However, as with many of his videos, keep in mind he normally shows a video of features in early access so they may not precisely represent their final state, but they just provide a broad overview of module features. And of course you've already seen Chuck's Guide which provides a very illustrative format for instruction. There is also the official DCS Early Access Guide which can be found on your computer if you've installed the DCS AH-64D module, located below next to the red arrow; or it can be manually downloaded from this link.
The DCS AH-64D Early Access Guide includes a more thorough description of the aircraft, systems, sensors, and weapons. Each chapter is iterative, in that it begins with a broad overview of the chapter topic, followed by explanations and graphics of each MPD page or aspect of the chapter topic, and then (when applicable), provides a step-by-step procedure with accompanying illustrations that explain how to accomplish each step of the procedure. Finally, Appendix A in the back provides abbreviated checklist procedures without the illustrations which may be more conducive to use when actually playing a mission, and is optimized for use on electronic devices such as tablets with hyperlink navigation.
You can also find this thread by BradMick (who has spent many years as a professional AH-64 instructor pilot) pinned to the main AH-64D forum section, in which he provides various video tutorials regarding flight maneuvers and procedures, using the force trim, navigation systems, and a little bit on using the TADS.
Hope you enjoy yourself.
Thanks for your comments, despite having been a long term DCS user I didn't think of using the DCS Early access manual, I have just relied on YouTube videos and Chuck's great guides

I have been flying the A-10C most of my time within DCS with some time on the KA-50 Blackshark 3, this is from the early days of DCS.
I thought I need to learn another aircraft type so have been looking at the F/A-18C or the AH-64D. Scanning Chuck's guide for the Apache, I cannot see how anyone can master this very complicated aircraft.
Can anyone give me any pointers how to start learning the systems and combat techniques of the AH-64D before I give up and learn the F/A-18C instead.

I have just started the Iron Flag training campaign. As I have two monitors I would like to show the kneeboard on the other monitor either by moving it or using a PDF version.
Any idea where the kneeboard for this campaign is located and is it in PDF format ?

Many thanks what you say makes sense.
I hope ED looks at this and finds a way to prevent Ai using APKWS rockets on targets its not designed for i.e. Tanks or amend the radio command somehow.

I have been trying a couple of the Instant Action missions for training using the A-10Cii. I have noticed when I ask my wingman to attack tanks with Missiles he normally uses the APKWS M151L rocket and not the Maverick (he has 4 loaded).
How can I force my wingman to use Mavericks against tanks

Well, it is difficult indeed to see stuff sometimes. However, in this special case, the reason for the difference you are seeing is simple: time of day.:smartass:
As it seems, the time of day of this particular mission was changed when it was edited for the A-10C II. The original mission runs in the afternoon, the A-10C II mission runs in early morning. This is why the lighting looks very different, and this is most likely the reason for your target visibility difference
Thanks I didn't realise they changed the mission for the A-10C II, changing the time of day makes sense why the lighting is different :)

I think the question was why there is a difference in the visibility of targets like trucks depending on the A-10c model you fly the mission with. Is that an intended change included with (and limited to) the A-10c II upgrade for realism?
Thank you Hive for pointing that out, that was my question.
Why is there a difference between the two A-10C variants in visibility, is this a modification to make the A-10C II more realistic ?

When flying the A-10C I often use the 'Easy-East Georgia-Spring' instant action mission for refresher training, so I know this mission reasonably well.
I have noticed when flying the A-10C II I can hardly see the two supply trucks until I'm practically on top of them, they appear to be a lighter grey and merge into the ground background, same for the Patrol (second target in mission). If I switch back to using the original A-10C the trucks are a lot more visible - very strange.

I'm currently using the Stable version of DCS 2.5 but as someone has already posted this version has not been updated since December. I appreciate the Beta version will include some bugs but I would like to try some of the new features added during the Beta process since December.
How can I start using the current Beta version of DCS 2.5 ?

Many thanks for your feedback on the GBU-38.
Its strange how some people have no problems using this weapon. I use the JDAM as per pages 563/564 of the A-10C user manual. The graphic of the HUD shows the aircraft at 6580 ft with the min and max carets far apart, this is how it was for me in the past but not now, at this height the two carets are barely apart.
Thanks BIGNEWY, I hope the team look at this as a matter of urgency as its definitely floored compared to previous versions and I've been flying the Warthog from day one.

Hi, I have just got back into DCS after some time doing other things.
I always use the Easy-East Georgia- Spring mission for refresher training have been doing this for years. On waypoint 3 Patrol as Rockets seem to be useless I use one of my GBU-38's to take out a truck and all of the soldiers, then come back and take out the other truck with guns - always previously worked a treat. Now with the latest 'Stable' version GBU-38's miss every time. On waypoint 5 I use my wingman to take out the tanks with guided bombs - he dropped two GBU-12's and killed two tanks with direct hits then he used a GBU-38 JDAM and the bomb went into the other field ??
I found a thread going back to April 2019 with people having the same problem but couldn't find any discussion on this subject since. The GBU-38 was always my weapon of choice for static targets so I know how to use them (even went back to the manual to make sure), but something has gone very wrong with the accuracy of these bombs.
Have DCS made any acknowledgment of this problem, as no fix seems to have come out after several updates.

I recently got back into the Ka-50 Blackshark after a couple of years absence and was trying the Instant Action - Nevada - Shooting Range mission. We both sat in a Hover about 6 clicks from the target site and I asked him to attack ground targets. His response was to fly around me in circles at low level, firing of chaff as if it was confetti and then crashed into the ground
This didn't give me a lot of confidence that the wingman AI has improved much during those two years. Just to confirm I am using the latest 'Stable version' of DCS World.

Hi
I've just started getting into the Mark 9 Spitfire so bought the Normandy Map and WW2 Assets Pack for $60. I thought the pack would have at least come with a few missions, but nothing shows under the Missions tab other than two Caucasus missions which I already had.
I know there is a purchasable Epsom Campaign but I'm a bit disappointed DCS haven't included a few more missions especially with the Normandy map - or have I missed something

I thought I had two versions of DCS on my hard drive, one 2.5 Beta and one 2.5 Release version, both in separate folders. When I click on the DCS 2.5 Beta icon is does not update to 2.5.1. If I go into the 2.5 Beta folder \bin and click DCS_updater it still doesn't update tp 2.5.1.
How can I tell if I have a beta version of DCS World 2.5 installed ? When I load the beta version, the version number at the bottom right of the GUI says 2.5.0 15365
-
That's how I remember it from previous versions.
Never sent a recording before, I'll look into it.

I have just returned to DCS since 2.5 Release came out and trying to relearn the A-10C. When trying the Unguided Bombs I select the MK82 and CCIP, but when flying straight and level according to the Attitude Indicator the dashed Projected Bomb Impact Line is angled to the left or right and not vertical. On page 538 paragraph 4 of the manual it says this only occurs when banked slightly, during testing I was definitely flying level. Is this a bug or am I missing something ?
-
That explains why this problem is happening,
Why can't DCS let the user decide which monitor they wish to use ?
-
I have two monitors connected to my computer, one larger than the other so use this one for gaming. Since upgrading to Windows 10, DCS always opens on the smaller monitor (one monitor selected in options), prior to the upgrade it remembered which monitor was last used.
Strangely no other game does this, they always open on the larger monitor which was used prior to shutting the game down. So I can't work out if this is a Windows 10 problem or DCS World.

Blackshark was by far my most favourite combat sim, but for various reasons I haven't played it for about 18 months. Since 1.5.2 came out I decided to get it out of the hangar again.
Has 1.5 added anything to BS2, if so is there an updated manual ?
Where to start flying the AH-64D ??
in DCS: AH-64D
