  1. Thanks all! I'll give it another go tomorrow and experiment with changing the HOF.
  2. Hi Guys, I'm learning to use JTAC and the CBU-97. I am able to destroy tanks with them but it seems to take forever for them to go off. Is it the fuzing that needs to be changed? I see the main bomb fall and separate. The chutes on the canisters deploy and then it takes about 45 seconds before the explosion and the tanks are destroyed. I thought the bomblets deploy out of the spinning canisters with the chutes, fly through the air skeet-like, sense their target and deploy their explosive charge. Like I wrote above, I can destroy tanks with them but something about the length of time it takes for the bomblets to explode doesn't seem right. Thank you, Tom
  3. Thanks again for the replies guys. All very helpful. I'm learning Balck Shark, well at least the battling aspect of it so I won't feel so bad about peaking occasionally. :)
  4. Thanks for the replies! I was thinking the f10 map would be kind of cheating but wasn't sure if something similar would be available to the pilot in real life. Thanks for the info on the target/bullseye, that explains all the radio calls coming in from other pilots. I'll try the neutral airports to see if they will rearm and refuel me next time.
  5. Hi, I was flying a Ka-50 mission last night and had my first look at the map (f10) that shows all of the unit locations and airports. Two questions, the first is do most of you use the map during the battle or do you rely on visual recognition of the enemy. The second question is I was looking for some place to rearm and only saw airports that were listed as neutral or American. I flew to the American airport to see if I would be attacked. I wasn't. If I go to a neutral airport will I be rearmed there? Oh, one last question, on the map there was a target bullseye. What is the purpose of that? It was located over a body of land locked water. Thanks for any tips.
  6. Thanks all for the helpful replies. I understand now. With FD off I have to overcome the 20% 'effort' that the ap/trim system is applying to keep my current attitude. When I click trim the new 'zero' is really whereever the stick is PLUS the 20% I had to overcome. I did notice that the smaller my pitching movement with the stick the less the additional pitching the heli self-applied. I'll try clicking and holding or constantly clicking to see which works best for me. I think click and hold-move-release will seem most natural. When I am really trying to maneuver quickly I am in FD which doesn't fight me with the additional 20%. Thanks so much for the help guys!
  7. I don't mean to beat a dead horse but... I have read all of the endless trim threads... I completely understand how trim works, in both center and non-centering modes. What I have noticed is that if while moving forward between 150 and 200 knots (any speed really) and then I pitch up 5 degrees an additional 8-10 degree pitch up occurs. The same happens if I pitch down, an additional 8-10 degrees of down pitch is added. I have the stick/trim indicator showing on the bottom left and I can see that the stick's position does not change, it is just the heli adding the additional pitch up or down in its attitude. If I put the heli in Flight Director mode this additional pitching does not occur. The heli remains in the attitude I trimmed. This additional input of control also occurs in the roll axis. Does anyone know how to get rid of this additional input that is occurring upon trimming? It only happens with FD off. With FD on the additional pitch is not added when trimming. I am using the Warthog HOTAS. Thanks for any ideas.
  8. Hi jib, I'm pretty sure I correctly wrote what I saw, but I'll go back and check it tonight. I was far away from the city and the buildings don't actually render until I get closer. I zoomed in the regular view, not the shkval, and could see the convoy in the street behind 'invisible/unrendered' buildings. When I went to use the shkval the buildings were present in that view so I couldn't see to lock on the vehicles. They however could see me and my altitude wasn't that high. If I didn't have shkval line of sight on them through the buildings they shouldn't have a had line of site to fire at me. In any event I couldn't get them because the buildings were visible in the shkval but not in my zoomed in external view. I'll double check tonight.
  9. Thanks for the reply Yurgon. This is in BS2/DCS world. Thanks for the tips too. I flew the convoy mission again tonight. Approached slowly looking for the convoys. A single stand alone AA gun found me but I couldn't see it so I ran for the hills and made my approach to the convoy once sighted. I took out several of them and thought it was safe (I thought I had taken out all AA) to approach to finish off with the cannon. My mistake...the SAM launcher was still alive and had taken cover. He took out my wingman who then flew into me. Oh well, try and try again. :joystick:
  10. When I approached the city one of the convoys was already present. Because of my distance from the city the tall buildings were not rendered. However when zooming in with the Shkval to get a better look the buildings were rendered. The result was that I couldn't get a visible lock on the enemy but they were able to shoot at me as though the buildings weren't there. With my inept abilities this made it all the more unfair.:joystick: I have tried sneaking up on the convoys and have only succeeded twice without being noticed by a convoy on my opposite side. What is the secret to this? Once you are noticed is it best to just fly away until you are out of range and then try to attack from a distance?
  11. Thanks expert, that worked perfectly. I wasn't even aware of the key binding process. Is this what should be done for each module purchased reagrdless of where it's purchased? Black shark is working great on my new pc build and next I'll be trying the A10-C. Thank you both for your replies. Tom
  12. Thank you expert. I will give this a shot in the morning.
  13. Thanks for the reply skatezilla. So I should revert my dcs world to match my aircraft module versions from avsim? I tried the reverse which was to download the latest aircraft modules from dcs but my avsim keys wouldn't work.
  14. Hi, When trying to install my ka-50 purchase from avsim into dcs world I receive a msg 'Can't install ka-50 1.2.6.19532 into newer dcs world 1.2.6.20768. Please donwload ka-50 1.2.6.20768 installer.' The avsim downloads for ka-50 and a10c are outdated and won't install into dcs world. So I downloaded from the dcs site the latest ka-50 and it installed fine but my key from my purchase on avsim won't work with the download from dcs . Would anyone have any idea how to resolve this? If AVSIM would host the most current release it might help. I just purchase on Dec 6 and just finished my new pc build. Thanks for any help, Tom
  15. Hi, I tried the 'shooting range' mission and used the auto start. After getting to the waypoint (I think #2) where the field of vehicles is I got into a hover and found my heli wanting to constantly turn back toward the track that I came from. Is there an auto pilot feature that I need to turn off? It seemed odd that it was trying to turn back to the waypoint I just came from. I have flown the mission by 'Parabellum' (Dummies guide) and never experienced this. There must be an auto pilot mechanism that is active, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't be the same in Parabelums mission when using the auto start method there. Thanks for any ideas, Tom
  16. Working now, after re-starting my PC the following day all buttons now work in BS.
  17. Hi, I am using touchPal and it is working great on my second monitor. The only issue I have is the the view changing buttons in the lower right of the panel don't do anything. If I open an editor I can see that they are sending the function keystrokes in the editor, but nothing happens in BS. Any ideas on making this work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  18. No, actually it will only run in full screen mode. In Windows7 while running BS I can't alt/enter it to a windowed mode and even making sure 'full screen' is unchecked in the BS setup window won't let it run in windowed mode. If I could run it in windowed mode I could drag it to my other monitor and then switch to full screen w/ alt/enter. All I can get it to run in is full screen.
  19. Hi, I am trying to run BS on my secondary monitor full screen. I need to set my small monitor as the 'primary' monitor in windows or the touch panel drive/functionality won't work (I am running touch buddy on my 800x600 small monitor). My 'secondary' monitor is 1680x1050 and this is the one I would like BS to display on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Basically I just want BS to show on what is designated in Windows7 as my 'secondary' monitor. Thank you, Tom
  20. Hi All, Thanks very much for all of the great advice. I think the pilot in the screen shot just had an accident with his burger from the drive/fly through. :) I'll try out the tactics you have all recommended and make my approaches MUCH more cautiously. What a great forum and a helpful group. Thanks again, Tom
  21. Hi, I'm new to this forum, I have been flight simming for many years. I have been reading the forum here and learning BS for a month or so. For the most part I have been flying my missions in 'indestructo' mode. :) I tried flying the 'Convoy' mission a couple of nights ago without 'indestructo' turned on. I was immediately blown out of the air by a SAM when I approached one of the 3 convoy areas. So I re-started and I tried again, this time as I approached the attack zone I began getting shelled and my 'wingman said 'enagaging defiensive', flew by me/into me and clipped my tail sending me tumbling and spinning through the air. I should have shot him down at this point. I regained control and tried to run away like a scared little girl. However when I got over and below a ridge in what I thought was a 'safe zone' I found myself being pummeled by AAA. I took care of him with my cannons but ended up getting my tail shot off (literally), a single blade from the lower rotor blown away, and I had to land. My question is, do you stand off from a long distance and engage or do you agressively approach and try to set up? I'm loving the sim and having a blast but I don't survive long without my 'indestructo' crutch. :helpsmilie: Thank you all, Tom
