Is your laser on when you fire it or are you accidentally turning your laser off after firing?

The laser is on.  I can lock the target with the aiming reticle, but the missile ignores it.

  2. I''m still using BS1 because it has no bugs and just works.  After some time away from it i started playing again and found that the Vikhr tracking isn't working.  I can locate and lock a target.  However, when the missile is fired it just slowly descends and impacts the surface in an unguided manner.  I've reviewed the targeting procedures in the manual.  Everything is set correctly.  I suspect the error is mine.  Can anyone straighten me out on this one.

    Thanks

  3. My guess is, Leroni used the mission editor to create and edit all the missions of the campaign. Like I said, if the missions are not protected, just use the ME (= Mission Editor) like you would to edit any other mission. If they are protected, that won't work. And I don't know if there was ever a way to undo this type of mission protection, I just think it was no longer possible to apply this past a certain DCS version, maybe 1.2 or 1.5, I don't remember.

Simply put, if the missions are protected, you're out of luck. ;)

Thanks for the explanation. It appears that my copies are protected.

That's OK. They are great just the way they are. :)

  4. There used to be a trick to place all units at the exact same spot in the ME (or some such) while keeping missions fully playable. Some mission designers used that as a kind of copy protection to prevent others from changing and then redistributing their missions. Could that be it?

If that's not the case, just use the ME, exactly like Leroni did to create these missions. Just be aware that many tutorials on the ME will show features that have been added post 1.0.1 and that may not apply to such an old version.

    Thanks for the reply.

I've tried several things mentioned on the forum to edit these files, including changing file names, but with no result. Whenever a Vergeev mission is loaded into the mission editor only the map appears centered over the Adler airbase. Nothing else. I cannot unhide anything. If I change a property of any object the map is zoomed out all the way and still no objects appear on it.

I don't know what you mean by "just use the ME, ""exactly like Leroni did"" to create these missions". How did he use it?

  5. You know what? I think that's it. I don't know what line equipment is, I just kept parking near where the Mil automatically lands each time.

Line equipment is loosely defined as any machines used to service or move aircraft. In BS, fuel, oil, APU and fire trucks are line equipment usually parked near control towers.

The briefing instructions state, "Park at the east end of the south ramp, near the line equipment parking and access road." Use your landing light to help you find the access road.

If you park just west of the access road you'll be in the trigger zone that will initiate a jeep to come down that road to pick you up, and also a fuel truck to arrive.

  6. I meant the part about disabling the heading selector channel' date=' I don't know if real Ka-50 pilots would fly it in this manner.[/quote']

Sorry. I misunderstood you. That's a good question.

If the real autopilot functions are the same as the sim, your use of the DT/DH switch seems reasonable.

Unfortunately, we may never know. The cockpit layout modeled in the Shark appears to be the type typically seen in pre-production development A/C. That is, off the shelf systems stuck in with not much regard for dedicated application or layout. For example, the marker beacon selector switch conveniently located in front of the yoke between your knees? :P By the time the A/C goes into production most of those cockpit systems would be replaced by updated, standardized units with much more automation and ease of use; including a functioning heading bug. Still, our current Sharks are interesting to operate. And finding a few non-standard work-rounds is part of the fun. Besides, you don't have to worry about getting a face full of dirt if you screw it up.

  7.

This might not be too realistic but it works for me.

Actually, it is realistic. In the real world the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) method is often much safer, simpler and more efficient than trying to configure complex navigation systems just to get from point A to B. Especially on short routes.

  8. Frederf is right the HSI merely displays information' date=' it doesn't actually feed information into the autopilot. I'd guess the manual mode would be used as a fallback for some kind of nav systems failure, or to use as a directional guide for a manually-entered desired heading without ABRIS reference, though I'm afraid I don't know for sure.[/quote']

I think you're right. I tried many autopilot setting combinations with no luck. But in a way you can get a backhanded manual function by turning off any waypoint selected on the PVI-800. Then, when you turn to a new heading and release the trim switch the heading bug locks on the new heading. Close enough for government work. :smilewink:

  9. You can't use the heading bug as an autopilot heading setter. It's not a bug afaik.

If not, then why can it be rotated with the Desired Heading Set Knob on the lower left corner of the HSI? I did see it slaved to the autopilot in a youtube video. But, I can't find that video again and there was only a passing mention of it being used in that manner.

  10. I'm using Black Shark 1.0.1. The course and heading source switch to the right of the HSI on the fromt panel only works in the Auto position. In the manual position the helicopter will not track the heading bug on the HSI. Am I not setting the autopilot properly for manual heading, or is the Manual source switch position not working?

    Thanks

  11. Still using 1.0.1? Did you not want to patch to 1.0.2? I think it was a good patch, iirc, though I know a lot of people had problems (including myself) installing it.

That turned out to be due to anti-malware progs stepping in and messing it up.

Or do you think 1.0.1 is better than 1.0.2?

    pm sent btw

I too had a lot of trouble with 1.0.2, unrelated to other programs. And considering DCS's history of patches and fixes for all of the follow-on versions with the only real improvement being graphics, decided to stick with 1.01. It just works.

  12. You could always try sending the dev a pm ;)

btw I still have my original campaign files (I bought it on release, too) - if Leroni says it's okay, I can send you them. He made it free for the later modded version that SD linked to, so he might let you have the original for free, too.

Thanks for the link. I sent Leroni a post asking if Vergeev Group would work with Black Shark 1.01. Don't have an answer yet. But, I seem to recall that the first "version" did. At least the demo files worked. So it's likely that your copy would. I haven't seen a source for the original files. I would greatly appreciate it if you can send a copy to me.

  13. Yeah. This behavior was introduced in one of the 1.2.x version some time ago. It generated a lot of complains but ED finaly replied that having this gauge on all the time was how it is supposed to work irl.

In the very few installations that I found IRL general aviation aircraft, a fuel meter switch provided a quick off-on check that the gauges had power or weren't stuck. But it wasn't commonly used in normal flight operations and generally left in the on position; perhaps because aircraft fuel meters (gauges) are historically unreliable. The only reliable fuel meter has always been a clock and knowledge of a particular a/c's fuel burn per hour.

  14. Check the path - doesn't look right?

If right, i think you should remove the /D in the start command - that switch expects a path - not a full filename.

    or should be

    start "" /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\stable" launcher.exe --Console

You're right. After a lot of reading and editing I found that line should read:

    start "" /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50" bin\stable\launcher.exe --Console

A matter of the quote mark (") being in the wrong place. My batch file is located in \KA50\. That is why the quote mark is there.

There is also a discussion of this kind of problem here:

    http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2642228/help_needed_launcher_exe_has_s.html

At any rate, My batch file now starts and then closes all three programs cleanly and correctly. Thanks for your input.

  15. For many years I've been using a batch file to start Black Shark 1.0.1, Voice Activated Commands and TrackIR5 under Windows Vista.

I recently installed Black Shark 1.0.1, Voice Activated Commands and TrackIR5 under Windows 7. The batch file starts both VAC and TrackIR, but displays "Cannot find Console" in the command prompt and does not load Black Shark. I've tried deleting "--Console" but Black Shark still does not load and displays "directory is invalid" in the command prompt.

    @echo off

REM Start BS, VAC and TrackIR. Then, close BS and VAC.

    start "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5\TrackIR5"

    start "" /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\stable\launcher.exe" --Console

    start "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\VAC System\VACSystem.exe" MyShark.xml,True

    echo To close VAC

    pause

    taskkill /im VACSystem.exe

    taskkill /im TrackIR.exe

I'm not up to speed on Window 7 batch files or scripts. Can anyone tell me how to modify this batch file, or write a new file, to start Black Shark?

    Thanks

  16. I had had the same problem last week (killed everything with the friend units in the city without losses) but the mission result was a no success. I tried again, same result, In the third try after killing everibody (at least I thought to have killed everibody) I ordered wingman to "engage target of opportunity"; he went in and killed someone I couldn't see and....the result was ok. So my advice is: use wingman!

You got it right. Don't try to do it all yourself. Use your wingman. He can usually find threats you don't see. Also, figure out what's going on. Sometimes, just clearing out the threats to an advancing column will allow them to take out any threats to you. Teamwork. :)

  17. Just for info, I'm still using BS1 and it has the visible pilot.

TrackIR allows you to move your head, and view, forward, backward and side to side. Then you can see all of the side and rear panels, even with the pilot visible. Check the TrackIR manual and program to find out which axis controls those movements.

But even being able to see the panels with TrackIR it's still sometimes easier to use the default NumPad 0+3 keys to view the right hand panel as you get a larger fixed view; which makes it much easier to throw switches and push buttons.

  18. Dear god!

What is wrong with you people, ...... lets turn this into a "WANT MORE EYE CANDY" or "GET ME SOMETHING NEW" thread.....

When it should be a "GET THIS BROKEN SIM FIXED" thread.

    Agreed.

I began to suspect it was all going sideways early on and stopped upgrading/patching at 1.01, when the ADF stopped working but everything else did, and before you had to download a fix for 1.02 just to get English back, again. The only reason I'm still here is the great bunch of people on this forum who help each other out.

  19. Why would you use patch 1.0.1???

I don't think you'll find anyone here playing that version.

I'm still using 1.0.1 because its stable. The next version, 1.0.2, replaced English text with Russian. After that, the next patch introduced more undesirable changes.

Now, DCS World and BS 2 greatly improve graphics. But ,basically, it's the same sim as Ver. 1. Plus, you need to run it on a 64 bit machine to get the best performance. When I need a new machine I'll probably upgrade BS.

You may be right about players. Still, there have been 70+ downloads of my latest 1.0.1 mission. I was hoping that someone might know or could provide a link to some info on the ADF's implementation or statis under ver. 1.0.1. I recall that it did work in the original release, ver. 1.0. Its operation became intermittent, depending upon the version, patch and/or then current program fix.

    Thanks for the reply.
