  1. Actually Su-25TM have a problem with Kh-31 missiles. The matter is that for normal accelerating for the cruise direct-flow engine start speed, speed of the carrier during the launch should be more 0,6 M even taking into account solid start-booster. Till now these missiles for low-speed planes are not approved yet.

    . . . . Interesting.

Leads into another question - how does the speed and agility of the Su25T compare to the Su25 currently modelled in Lomac v1.02?

That aircraft, even when quite heavily laden, is capable of achieving speeds in excess of Mach 0.6 - as the Mach buffet above about M 0.75 shows.

  2. Re: This was be cool

I like to see Ground Personal on the Airbases and Groundcrew on the Carrier.

This brings more Life in the Game. Automatic Head Movement like in Strikefighters was be Great.

Flashing lights for all Planes, and more Skins to add on any planes...(no limits)

This are verry little things, but that was Great to see it in this great Game....

    . . . Modelling 3d-animated ground personnel is a little thing?

    What about the performance hit?

  3. Sorry BGP but you gotta be joking. Pacific Fighters has better FPS than LOMAC and its obvious why. In lomac even the FPS displayer consumes FPS, theres no way to switch flares and explosions pixel shaders off (unless you use the mods for that), the labels are also high FPS consuming, and the fact that has LOMAC ground has water under it, makes the game a very heavy game even for high end pcs.

And even if LOMAC had better FPS than PF, patches are already under way for it. (Pacific Fighters of course)

    Really, I'm not kidding.

Flares are a bugger, I admit . . . . explosions don't seem to cause that much of a problem for me, I don't use labels, and to get PF's water looking anything other than flat blue is causing my system some problems right now.

Lomac right now is running very smoothly on my system . . . . I agree that PF generally is very good for FPS, but the only way to get decent water is right now killing them.

Last time I heard the Lomac "OMG t3g water is t3h everywhere !11!!!one!!" argument, I was told that it would actually be worse for performance to try and split up the areas of water . . . . .

    (forgive the poetic license )

  4. According to 1987 paper I had, the MiG29 weapon system was credited with some auto-firing feature:

if feature is selected, and the trigger is kept pulled by the pilot, a burst is fired when the telemetry laser and IR tracking system tell the tracked target is right in the line of fire...

...Reason why there's so few bullets in the Fulcrum's payload.

Is this information accurate or was it just an assumption?

I've heard about this system as well - don't know how realistic it is, but if the pipper goes back to being as accurate as it was in Flanker 2.5, then you don't really need it

  5. Re: to the Dev: what's the future for AI and gameplay in Loc

    - AI is apparently "significantly" improved in v1.1.

    - Try patching directly to v1.02 from v1.0 - reportedly more stable and better for FPS.

    - Regarding FPS . . . . Lomac IS a demanding game. There isn't really any way you can get around that. At the moment, I find that it both looks better and runs smoother than Pacific Fighters . . . . so I'm happy.

    - AC switching . . . mmn. I wouldn't recommend that anyway. Shrug.

    - Procedures . . . . are not Lomac's strong point. Look for them to be upgraded a little in v1.1 . . . . perhaps a lot in future. If all you *really* want is procedures, though . . . may I suggest Falcon 4 SP4, or the forthcoming Fighter Ops?

    - The ME looks to be improved in v1.1, too . . . complete with some mission randomisation built in. A true Dynamic Campaign is a long way off . . . . for now the best way to approximate something similar is to alternate building missions with a few online buddies. Can make them MP as well, and only every couple of missions do YOU know what's going to happen in them.

Things are going to get better (or even better, depending on your point of view  ) . . . but not instantly. Be patient, hang around here and see what happens.

  6. Although I'm sure there will be many different opinions, I would be most pleased by seeing the Su-27/33 get the same depth of modelling as the Su-25T - flight, engine, subsystem, damage and ground collision.

That being said, I think Lock On desperately needs a campaign engine and I have been whining about that for more than a year. :P

    . . . . . What Ola said.

    Oh . . . . an Su33 at the same standard as the Su25T. I think I would wet myself upon flying it . . . . .

Looks like a campaign engine is getting a little more possible with the tweaks being made or considered. Mmmmn . . . . . you can keep your Falcon 4 :P

  7. Re: hi

3 - Make TWO SITS plane!

. . . . To some extent at least, this is already possible.

With suitable tweaking, use of the LAN Instructor function, shape-model swapping, and editing of the files that control seat position within the 3d model, you can have a pseudo-two-seater . . . .

It wasn't intended, it's a bit buggy, and it's not perfect . . . . but you can do it. The implications for training are very nice indeed . . . . . but as it is, you can't do it with more than two people.

(If you want a look, then go to http://www.lockonskins.co.uk, then Downloads, and then Mods . . . . look for the Su27UB)

However, the words "Internet Instructor Feature" have been whispered gently in corners . . . . so it might be that we'll get some improved fun stuff with v1.1 :)

  8. Re: SU-25T Aiming TV

Thats good to hear, I have found often with the A10 that to get close enough to identify the air-defences around the target, the shilkas already spraying and a missle is ripping its way towards you. I have remedied this by approaching real low and with the cover of terrain, screaming over the target area making the AA light up, then I can pinpoint the locations on the air defences.

. . . . I didn't think you could do much in the way of screaming in an A10 :P

    You want to fly the Su25, mate . . . . all that speed . . . .

That's a good point - wonder what that weight and drag does to the speed and handling of the Su25T?

  9. HOwever, there is a big problem with the target diamond - I don't want it! I want the option to turn that diamond /off/ when I designate a target in the mission editor. The reason for this is that looking for your targets visually can be quite fun, while designating them as goals without setting'em up as targets is currently impossible.

    ??

I have set mission goals without designating targets - buildings and an S300 SAM group work just fine.

You need to set an attack waypoint for the mission goals to register, but you don't need to set any targets.

    The target diamond . . . . . apparently it's something illuminated by laser.

Fine, but then it shouldn't work at extreme range.

That'd be a good modification for the CAS side of things, whichever jet you're supposed to be flying.

  10. Re: LockOn with Linux

Was it Linux, or Mac that required OpenGL?

Last time the OpenGL question was asked . . . . . the answer was that no OpenGL rewrite would be forthcoming, since it would require a complete graphics engine rewrite. And I do mean a "complete" rewrite.

However, there has been mention of one of the less-distributed OS's running Lomac - go to Ubi and search for details, might yield something of interest.

  11. UBI is not stupid. They would have notised the same game engine... And caused lots of problems...

    . . . . Yeah . . . but Ubi doesn't technically own the game engine - that's a TFC right.

If I've understood this correctly, what Ubi own is the right to distribute Lock On:Modern Air Combat . . . . and any immediate derivatives thereof. It might be that v1.1 changes enough of the engine to be counted as a different game . . . . or it might not. It's a fine point.

  12. Re: SU-25T Aiming TV

Hi guys I just wanted to ask a quick question about the new SU-25T, I have noticed the aiming TV for the vikhr seems to have a higher zoom level than that on the A-10 in 1.02, which is great if true, because targets will be so much easier to identify at longer ranges to the point of saying "Thats a tank" "Thats AD" etc. Is this true or am I seeing things?

    Thanks in advance guys. :D

    Correct.

The camera here is mounted in the nose of the Su25T - allowing more complexity and fun-ness than a little seeker in the nose of a missile.

I would assume that this means the Vikhr isn't fire and forget, though . . . . bit of a downside, but still looks awesome.

  13. Re: ED and Distribution

    . . . . . . they could have found a distributer in the West . . .

Personally, I'm not too optimistic that they could have done. Shrug.

In any case, with shelf space coming at a premium and interest in flight sims decreasing, not too many shops would be likely to stock it . . . . look at the number that actually stocked Lomac.

Selling it directly would seem to be a more cost-effective method of distribution . . . . .

  14. Re: Nice to be here at last . . . . . now, about LAN instruc

    Will it be in v1.1?

LAN game removed together with LAN instructor. Wait for Internet instructor, please.

Internet instructor is in the works?

I look forward to it greatly :)

But when you say LAN game is removed . . . . does that mean we can't play Lomac over a LAN anymore, or that we just use exactly the same setup for a LAN as the internet?
