Hi, I have two questions. I know its because I am missing some fundamental about how locking works. 1. I created some missions with some Russian SU jets. I keep getting shot down but regardless of who in engage I never get a lock on warring at all. Just a missile in my face from a SU. I can fire a AAMRAM or a AIM and turn away and use counter measures which typically will hit one of the two I fire at and typically survive but I never can tell if they have even fired when I make a 90 and head a different direction. I think I keep getting hit by a 27ET missile. I have them set on Rookie. Is there any way to tell they have fired a missile so I dont waist half my countermeasures if they haven't sent a missle my way? Or maybe this is the way its supposed to be. 2. When locking on. I am 40 some miles away then they just disappear after a few minutes and I cant see them at all via radar any more. I have to get close and use sidewinders (assuming I don't get hit by a missile that they fired and didn't know was coming). Some times if I toggle TWS and RWS it will refresh and I can see them again, sometimes I can cycle targets and find them again, but many times they are just gone. My wing man is calling them out so he must still be able to see them. Am I doing something wrong here as it does not seem to happen all the time but enough times I have costed the Navy quite a few F18s. Thanks for the help

VR Question as it relates to the F18
Justin1Ntime replied to Justin1Ntime's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
These are all great ideas. Thanks a ton for the support here. I like the idea of just repositioning the camera, thats super easy as I have that mapped to a button already. That is what i was doing DUNX and my neck started to hurt. I thought I was in the movie the Exorcist for a second as far as I forced my head to turn . I think I will also give the controller a try as well. I have a few of those sitting around. Again thanks a ton for the responses. -
VR Question as it relates to the F18

I am not sure how others are doing this but in the F18 cockpit you have switches to the left and right slightly sitting back behind the pilots arms. You have the ejection handle sitting right in your lap. When using VR I find that access to any buttons sitting toward the back of the panel or the ejection handle are really hard to look at that far down or that far over my shoulder in VR (I am using the VR "+" symbol and clicking my mouse). How are others doing this in VR? Are you just mapping a button on the keyboard instead of use the the VR cockpit "+" for those buttons? -
HI Does anybody know when open beta Sea and GMT features will move into the full game?
-
Sure, CPU = overclocked 4.0 Ghz I-6700K to 4.6 Ghz (I have to set my Fans at 70%) / GPU = 2800 Super Founders Edition overclocked to from 1985 to 2085 Mhz (on the GPU I have to set my Fans at 100% to keep it cool). Its not quiet by any means but I really can tell the difference when I overclock and I just wear headphones. Render Resolution (RR) in Oculus SW is set to 1.5. I am on RR of 1.6 now but some times it gets choppy and spend the majority of my time at 1.5. Textures High Terrain High Cive Traffic Med Water High Visibility Range Ultra Heatblur off Shadows Med Resolution 1280x768 Aspect ratio 1.666666666 Monitors 1 screen Cockpit Display 1024 MSAA Off Depth of field Off Lens Eff None Motion blur Off SSAA x2 SSLR Off Grass = 0 Tree vis = 100% Preload Radius = 100% Chimney Smoke 4 Gama 2.2 Anisotropic Filtering 16x Shadows = default Global Illumination Off Check in rain droplets check in full screen

solved GMT and Sea mode not working on F18

LOL not sure so that means no. How do I run beta? Sorry thought this was just rolled out to everybody. -
Not sure what I am doing wrong. I click on the map button and nothing happens. I cant get it to go to GMT or Sea mode on the F18. I click update and it states there isn't any updates. Where am I going wrong?

That fixed it for the most part. (At least it's as good as its going to get with a quest 2 I think) Its alot better now. On top of that I moved it back to 72 hz refresh rate down from the 90 I had earlier and its a bit smoother too boot. Thanks for the help.

Cool I will give it a try when I get home today. Thanks for the input.

I have, all of my other games look fine. I guess maybe it's just this game. I was thinking maybe the video compression might be doing it or something like that.
-
Ok I am not sure if it is related to my Quest 2 headset or maybe its just the game. Had the same issue with the Quest 1. But even on high graphics settings everything about 50 feet away gets a jagged edge. If i look up close to the plane on the runway everything is fine and smooth. Looking out at the runway farther out everything gets really ugly. Everything becomes jagged as if AA was not turned on at all but everything is on max. If I move my head I can see the jagged edges move and shimmer. It really looks bad. Is this a Quest Link problem or just a VR problem? My flat screen does not see this issue at all.

Wow didn't know there was a manual. Thanks

How do I create a Wing Man? Will they just follow me or do I have to create waypoints for them? Also If I start attacking ground targets or air targets will they just engage without me have to instruct them. Sorry this is a supper noob question. I am new to DCS just starting to learn to build missions so I can practice.

Thanks guys that was it. it was the SOI. I had it mapped wrong. Wow I dont see how you can use the Maverick F without pausing it. I have to put it on active pause in order to line it up, lock on, and then take the shot. At any rate thanks a ton for the support.

Maybe I am missing something. I press ARM on. Then I press A/G. Then I press the mavf button and it shows the X. Then I press Mavf again and wait for the countdown until it warms up. Once the timer expires I see the visual on the screen. I press the cage/uncage and it doesn't do anything. (keyboard c). Did I miss a step?
-
I take that back. My Sidwinders uncage just fine. My AIM missiles do not
-
I for the life of me cant get my cage/uncage to work with the Maverick F for the F18. What am I doing wrong? I see all these great tutorials on AG missiles but I cannot get the cage button to work with this AG missile. Works fine for my A to A missiles. Any help would be great.

Hi I am just getting started with the F18 mod. I noticed when I am in Nevada my speed never goes over 710(ish) on the left side of the hud and my altitude is about 2000k to high on the right hand side of the hud. Shouldnt this go faster and the the ground be zeroed out on the Nevada map. Again this is just me messing around in free flight.

Is there a good way to practice
Justin1Ntime replied to Justin1Ntime's topic in New User Briefing Room
Ok cool, I have never created a mission before. I clicked on it early on and was overwhelmed when the map came up. Wasn't sure where to start or even where i was taking off from. I think all these are good places to start. -
So I am new to this game, and I have to say with VR I love it. This is about as close to flying the real thing than I have ever seen. But there are so many buttons to push and things to remember. I would like to practice one thing over and over so it becomes second nature. then move on to the next thing and rinse and repeat. I have finished the training (Started with the FA-18c) but I hate having to sit through the dialog when replaying the training modules. It takes for ever. Is there a way I can just set up some drones so I can practice changing weapons and radar modes without getting blown out of the sky in before I can figure out what is going on :) Sorry for the dumb question.

Quick question about using the Map when in FA18C
Justin1Ntime replied to Justin1Ntime's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Thanks I dont know why I didn't think of that. Can you bring up the map in when you pause it so my plane does not crash into a mountain :) ? -
I am trying to get used to using TCN. I finally got it to work but now I ran into another problem. How do I find the TCN number of a near by station? I pushed F10 that brought up a map but then once in the map I couldn't get out. Is there away to quickly bring up a map, find a station, then close the map? Thanks

New VR User Question about cockpit view

Boom that did it. I was not scrolling down far enough.
