  1. Hi,

My question about a previous headset is related to problems there were In the beginning of the headsets as the Varjo and the Crystal coming into DCS. Specific related to WMR software still installed.

Have you uninstalled all software related to the G2 Reverb? It would be at least worthwhile giving this a try and make sure all WMR related software is removed.

Did you also have a check in the DCS log for clues?

  2. Because I bought a BeQuiet! Pro 13 PSU I now have this BeQuiet! Pro 12 1500W available.

I wanted the 13 because it has PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR 600W connections for my RTX4090.

PSU is in perfect condition, in use since 10-2021.

100 euro excluding shipping, EU only.

    FOV

    Hi,

Please have a look at this video, although it is not about the Varjo it should give you the information about perceived FOV.

BTW, the new wider FOV lenses will increase the FOV even more.

  3. Initially it wouldn't work on my system. Using the keyboard keys I defined the screen just turned black. Nothing to see.

For another reason I had to reinstall my C-drive, Windows and all user programs, I always format drive when I do a new Windows install.

So a total clean install, the installed Pimax Play and now it works.

Seems to me that the Pimax Play update does not clean out everything related to the previous version.

Now let's hope that the software for the image gets better because it is very low quality passthrough.

  4. On my system I run the Crystal with a RTX3090. Just make sure that besides Pimax Play that you install OpenXR Toolkit, PimaxXR, QuadView & QuadView Compagnion.

On the web you'll find a lot of information about these programs, how to install and use them.

There is also a lot of information about settings, but, in the end you'll have to take these more or less as basics because you'll have to tune all these to your likings and to your system. There are no defintive settings, even if people have your CPU & GPU their settings might not work for you.

In the end, it sure is worth investing a bit of time as the Crystal is a heck of a headset that can give you a great experience in DCS (and other flightsims).

  5. @unpilot1 if you had OpenComposite installed before and removed it now I would strongly suggest to do a DCS repair to make sure that no dll file is left from the OpenComposite install.

I also made sure that no flightsim (DCS/Il-2,MSFS) is connectet to Pimas Play. I have only the common settings available in Pimax Play. Although I still have Steam installed on my system it won't start SteamVR when I use my desktop shortcut for DCS. Or any other flightsim for that matter.

  6. Hello,

This new pass-through feature is something I'm really looking forward to. Ever since it was announced already at the Pimax Play version 1.17 release I was hoping that it would be added.

My biggest wishfor is maybe solved by it: the ability to see the Pimax Play screens while keeping the headset on.
To me it is very annoying that I cannot control the various settings without taking off the headset. After all, the headset is meant to put you in a virtual world but in that world you loose the control over the environment.

The next question is maybe one for a 'flightsim and seated only' user and also one that never uses the controllers. In fact, mine are still in the box where they came in.
Please add the mouse as a controller. For example, to do the eye-calibration you either use a controller or the keyboard. But, with the headset on it is always a blind fumble to find the Enter key on the keyboard. Adding the mouse to click on the screen would make it so much easier.

Another question is based on the OpenXR implementation.
At the moment Pimax Play is very much based on SteamVR. The per-game settings work only for games started in SteamVR.
That means that for OpenXR only the common settings work.
On my system (i9-12900K & RTX3090), the Crystal works best on the 120 Hz setting in DCS. Eliminates almost all stutters.
But for IL-2 I have to put it on 72 Hz.

If the OpenXR Toolkit, PimaxXR Control Center (and QuadViews Companion?) could be integrated into Pimax Play that would put all these settings into one application. After all, Pimax self recommends these applications for the best Pimax Crystal experience.
That would also give per-game settings that for me would be much more logical.  Why an overall setting for the pixels as it does make more sense depending on the game you start?

Pimax has started with Pimax Play fairly recently. In my opinion now is also the opportunity to rebuild the software into modules for applications based on for example Steam and OpenXR and be ready for future developments.

I'll keep my hopes on Pimax Play version 1.18... 🙂

  7. Hi,

On my stick it works as intended. In the Windows USB game controller the switch flips from 24 (up = safe) to 28 (down = armed).

What is important that you follow the correct calibration procedure in the VKB software as the position of the switch is important when you start the calibration. You can find the latest video on how to do it on the VKB youtube channel.

Then check in the Windows USB game controller (do not click the calibrate, only the test!).

Also, when I start DCS I always make sure the switch is in the down position. In the L-39 it will work the wrong way around if you don't.

  8. Congratulations on your buy. There are various websites with instructions how to set up the Crystal in general and specific for DCS.

    General: Solutions : Pimax Support

DCS: The Ultimate Crystal Guide On Setting Everything Up For Flight | Pimax

From my own experience I would not bother for the lighthouse if you use the Crystal only seated for flightsims. The inside-out tracking is really good.

And yes, as a general rule it is always wise the fully uninstall previous VR specific software. This does not include Steam as the Crystal can also work with Crystal.

But if you follow the instructions on the link above you won't need to use Steam for the Crystal. Saves again on CPU load..
