  1. Anyone using the Break, Crank, Clear or Pump on wingmen in SP. How useful have you found them and in what situations. Is there anything available externally - youtube, official or unofficial tactics manuals - on the subject? Mostly, I've just been telling them to Anchor or attack my SPI during combat and relying on the AI to take evasive action.
  2. I played your track then went in and flew another crazy flight myself. I do feel I have the same control either way when doing extreme maneuvers. Though the FD is still my prefered choice when I go extreme, as there's just too much "grip" from the AP with it off. Otherwise I bob around all over the place and have to really hold the cyclic in place tight to fight it. Also the trim has a lot less affect over the FD, than without FD. For instance, if you were to trim a tight bank in one direction and try to change direction and without trimming, you'd notice the force being applied by the AP (with FD off). A neutral trim in level flight to start with is much easier to control when banking. I still trim while using FD as there is still some input from the trim, but nowhere near as much. Like you say, in the sim it's a matter of preference where IRL it would be common to use full AP (I suspect). I just see it as another tool to use as needed.
  3. I agree. I see no reason not to use FD in the sim. It makes things far easier to control manually - like during evasive maneuvers from a SAM or AAA or even lining up for a rocket run. It's also great to have on for landings and I've found it especially useful as a quick way to start a hover then turn it off to stabilize with all AP on, before trimming for a hover hold. If you need to do some heads down work or if you're enroute, sure turn it off and go route mode. I constantly switch it on/off throughout flight depending on circumstances.
  4. Very helpful doc. Couple of things I missed in my own startup procedure. Thanks. Maybe just add the Nosewheel ON at the end, in case it's not. I couldn't find any reference to it in yours. Otherwise all good.
  5. Apart from a good joystick setup, I always maneuver using Flight Director now. Once I discovered that it actually changes the flight dynamics it's made flying far easier for me. I used to think it was only a HUD symbology that you followed, but it actually removes the computer control somewhat and is extremely useful for manual flight as you are not fighting the trimmed controls. Trim is still there and used, but the effect is far less. You still keep the Bank, Heading and Pitch buttons on though (usually always). To be precise the manual states ... "Flight director mode button. Disengages autopilot automatic angular stabilization (except for dampener function)..." page:6-69 or 143 in PDF. I turn FD off when I've settled into a flight patten I want to maintain, usually when enroute to a waypoint or when coming to a hover as it helps stabilize things more.
  6. Thanks! UP it is then.
  7. Hi, How do you know which setting the Radio Selector Dial is using, as there's no obvious marker on the dash for the setting?
  8. Basically, how do I find out what stores my wingmen have remaining during a mission when engaged in combat? ATM... I'm jumping to external view and literally looking under their wings to find out what they have left, after they've already unloaded some ordinance. The simplistic radio response "unable" when giving them orders (because they've run out of a particular bomb or missile) seems ineffectual and jumping to external view breaks the first person immersion of staying in cockpit mode. How do the real A10 pilots do it? Do they share DSMS data across aircraft, or use special radio responses?
  9. I'm guessing it ties in with the MSG explaination on pg.353 in the manual. No mention of HUD prompt though. Anyway thanks.
  10. I keep getting the message "Note" flashing on the HUD. Can't find anything in the documentation about it. Anyone know what it means?
  11. How about the radar / barometric switch middle position? I can't find any posts here on what it does exactly, nor in the manual. I understand what either mode does, but not this.
