  1. Thank you for your reply. I finally figured out that found the Config file in Saved Games folder and changed the setting ["multiMonitorSetup"] = "1camera" That put the entire scene in the center monitor. In terms of using all of the monitors, I am currently using x-plane 11 and my 3 monitor set up allows me almost 180 degrees of of view which gives me what is in front as well as the left and right view. I did this in x-plane as my learning was to fly the Cessna 172 on VFR and I could spot an airport off to the right or left and make and landing and take off again. I then used the Cirrus to do the same - only faster. I am now trying to master the F18 on both x-plane 11 and DCS and am still struggling to make a carrier landing on either one. Thanks, Otrman AKA Henry
  2. Screen Shot For my Post Here is a screen shot of what my center screen looks like.
  3. I have 3 monitors but have been running DCS on the Center monitor. I went into options and decided to choose 3 monitors. Now the DCS only shows up on the center screen and then only partially. I cannot get to the options tab to change it back to 1 monitor. How can I fix this as I am grounded. Help! Otrman
  4. Afterburner Is there an indicator for the afterburner. I pressed the assigned binding and I did not notice any discernible effect. Throttle was maxed, I got off at about 130, climbed, and got up to about 150, climbed slowly to 20,000 leveled off at 300 or so. Is this the expected performance or have I done something wrong? Otrman (Henry)
  5. I just received the F18, setup control bindings, took the taxi/takeoff, and managed to get off the runway but have a couple of questions. 1. The instructor said that afterburners have to be engaged for takeoff but did not tell exactly when to engage them - at first start down the runway or reaching a given speed. 2. There is a setting for the F18 that gives the choice of always off or always on. When always off is selected does that mean that I can not selectively engage afterburners or is engagement by setting the binding for that or does the above mentioned of on mean that I can set a binding switch to engage. here is a binding for cycling afterburners when needed. 3. What is the takeoff and landing speed spec for the F18. 4. What is the maximum speed of the F18. I can't find answers to these questions in the manual. Otrman
  6. Preparing for the F18 Getting ready for the F18, 1. Someone mention "disabling thingies" - what are these and where are they? 2. Should I fly "sim" or "game"? 3. After I install the F18 and create it's own profile how do be sure it is loaded when I want to fly the F18 rather than the P51 Real? I will order it now and go through the Manual for it. Regards, Otrman
  7. F18 vs P51 Only reason I started on the P51 was to master something difficult and besides I am a WWII buff. I have X-plane 11 and have flown the Cirrus jet and the Phantom. Much easier to fly. I want something more modern and with mission capability. I would eventually like to fly the F18 off a carrier. The P51 that came with DCS just doesn't work for me. Otrman
  8. Assist Things I am flying the P51D Real - have one profile in supporting that. All response curves at "stock". I was told that on the options, to set "game". Is that what you are referring to? Should I set to "simulation"? I roll off to the left even though I get up to 120 before trying to left off? This plane is the one supplied by DCS as a freebie. I don't really care this much about the P51, as I am able to take off using x-plane 11 with both the Corsair and Mustang (Skunkcraft). What about the F18 (purchased) by DCS? Any comments on that one? Thanks in advance, Otrman
  9. Gunsights I don't know. It is the one that comes with DCS. I didn't focus on that as my main concern was to learn to take off, fly, and land before I got into missions. Why do you ask?
  10. Just Not Working Out I created a new profile "real" deleted the "easy" profile. I deleted the "easy" one by finding it and deleting it. What I would like is to have an option to select the profile I want to use when I start the sim. I have the same thing with the newly created profile. I lift off but it rolls violently causing me to roll to the right or left. Is there a way I can record the flight so you folks can see what is happening to me. I wanted to use DCS to learn and fly the F18 but the F18 is a much more complex and faster plane and I fear I will not do any better. It appears that I will have to stay with general aviation planes.
  11. Game Flight Mode That did not change anything. I will add a profile for Real that includes all my buttons and save it to see if that works.
  12. Attachments for Previous Notes I know I am being picky here but I will be using the same controller setup when I get to the F18 later and I would solve them before then. Is there a curve suggestion that might help with the roll problem? Attachments coming,, P51 Easy.diff.lua.txt.txt
  13. Taking Off in the P51 First let me say that it is my intention to get to the F18. My apparent madness is that I am very much a perfectionist. And when I heard that the Mustang was hard to fly, and then tried it, I chose to master it before moving on. I learned on the 172 on x-plane 11 and never having flown a sim I struggled a bit but got it done. I then moved to twin engine baron and finally to the Cirrus jet. Each change got easier because I only had to learn only to learn the new stuff that came with new planes. Flying the Corsair, which is a tad easier than the Mustang, I wanted to sharpen my reaction and problem solving skills. Right now, I can proceed down the runway, lift off at about 120, and climb. I was told that flaps down a notch or two will help offset the current tendency for the plane to want to roll left. Two problems, the flaps don't work, thus the place moves to the left and I have to roll back. The other problem is that I cannot move the yoke fast enough to correct. I have to move it all the way till it stops. Axis assignments and they all light up when I move the controls. I have the flaps assigned to two buttons on the Alpha. They light up when I press the buttons but do not deploy the flaps, which is what I want to do while the plane is on the runway waiting to take off. After takeoff, I cannot raise the landing gear. They light up when deployed but not when I need to raise the gear. I tried to send you images, but they made the reply too long. Can you provide me a way to send the images? Hope you can help me, Cheers, Otman (Henry)
  14. Making Some Progress I started flight simulation about 5 months ago with x-plane 11 and have been able to fly the 172 and Cirrus fairly well. I got Corsair and Mustang aircraft because they are notoriously difficult to fly because of the torque generated by the very powerful engines but I need to sharpen my skills and reaction time to get ready for DCS flying. Right now I am working the the P51 for takeoff and am having the same problems I initially had with the x -plane version: 1. First I am using a combo of the Honeycomb Alpha for Pitch and Roll, Logitech rudder pedals for Yaw, and an X52 throttle for power management and use the six buttons on the X52 stick for chase, cockpit view, pause, brakes, and gear up, and gear down. I also use a couple of buttons on the Alpha for flaps up and flaps down. 2. I proceed down the runway very slowly but that is difficult as the throttle gets to 100% power midway through. I carefully dance on the rudder pedals to keep on the runway. When wheels start to life I increase power and manage lift off. 3. I am using the solo takeoff exercise and the plane begins to roll from side to side. With some suggestions from the x-plane forum I get the speed up to 120 and begin climb out. When I had this problem on x-plane I followed a suggestion to put the flaps down on takeoff and raise them when I thought I was in control. I would like to try this with the DCS Mustang but the flaps down work. The flaps and brakes down work even though pressing those buttons when in controls mode light up as assigned. I have been told that the Mustang is hard to fly even for experienced pilots so if I can mast it I will be hopefully in good shape to take on the DCS F18 and learn to fly missions up to and include carrier landings. All of the curves for the axis controls are set to factory mode. Can anyone help me Otrman
  15. Can't Find Toe Brakes I cannot find toe brakes when searching when searching controls. Toe brakes work just fine on my Logitech rudder pedals when using x-plane 11.
  16. Cannot Assign Brakes I cannot assign "wheel brakes both" Keyboard "W" to either my Alpha Yoke or my X52 yoke. "W" does not work either. Bug? I cannot attempt landings with P51 until I have brakes. Otrman
  17. Still Cannnot Fly the P51 Easy I still cannot get the P51 more than a few feet above the runway. When I reach 100 mph I gently pitch up and the plane rolls left and crashes. I have both the Alpha Yoke and X52 give the same symptom. I need to use the Alpha as I have a weakness in my right shoulder that does not permit me to operate the stick properly. I need both hands on the controls as with the yoke. I am running training solo takeoff as I have a rendition of the P51 and a Corsair running on x-plane 11. I can take off with both - not easily but can get it done. Once in the air I have good control of both aircraft I have experimented with various curves for the x and y axis but get the same result every time. I also did the landing in the training section, not landing, but just trying to fly around to see if I can control it in the air. Something is amiss as I require extreme use of the controls to fly anything even resembling a straight and level course. I have ensured, I think, that all the control settings are linked to the P51. On the topic of the brake switch, which I will surely need later, it doesn't the plane. The button is in controls is recognized. It just doesn't stop the aircraft. I also note another problem that will come up when I start taxi operations. This requires using the left and right brake independently. On x-plane, I can use the rudder toe brakes and I don't see any option for that in DCS. I know that the P51 is difficult to fly but I am serious about learning to fly this plane so I can get into the combat simulation that is part of DCS Hope you folks can help.
  18. Making Progress I have two controller systems on my system. A Honeycomb Alpha/X52 Throttle for x-plane 11 and the X52 Stick and X52 throttle for DCS. I have only chase, cockpit, pause, brake (will explain), gear toggle, flaps down buttons working. When I start solo takeoff the P51 is sitting on the runway and does not begin taxi until I engage the throttle. The brake button on the X52 does not stop the taxi. That's OK for now because I am still just taking off and flying around to develop skill in handling. I did manage to get off the ground but the stick is way to sensitive. I saw the axis tune control and did understand how to give the stick a slight dead spot. I don't understand how to add force feedback to the parts of the curve above and below the dead spot. Can you give me a heads up on that. Please be patient with me as this is my first time trying to fly the P51 which is why I chose "easy" to start. Thanks Otrman (Henry)
  19. Still not working Thanks for your reply but I still cannot get going. 1. I made all the button assignments using the buttons on the X52 joystick. 2. checked that axis work 3 chose P51 easy 4. selected solo takeoff 5. got a cockpit view, tried aircraft view button - no response 6. engine already running and it began to taxi 7. tried the brake button - no response 8. had to hit b on keyboard to make it stop 9. The throttle on the X52 could be used to change power 10. It that the buttons on the X52 joystick are not be recognized What am I missing Otrman
  20. Getting started I have been flying for about 5 months on x-plane 11, Cessna 172 and Cirrus Jet. I have both a Saitek x52 and Honeycomb Alpha. My plan is to use the supplied P51 and just want to start by mastering take off. The first thing I wanted to do is map some basic controls to buttons on the X52. I want to map a button to view the plane sitting on the runway before taking off so I can verify the operation of the pitch, roll, and yaw but cannot find a view command that works. I also cannot find a command assign listed for the brakes or landing gear. I have looked in "All" which I am assuming lists every possible command available to DCS. I have 6 buttons to use on the X52 Joystick, 9-14. I want to assign them as follows: 9 - a view I can use to view the plane, instead of the cockpit, either on the runway or in the air when I find the correct command. 10 - return to cockpit view 11 - pause 12 - brakes - when I find an available command 13/14 - gear up/down - unless there is a toggle - if so will assign 13 and save 14 for future use. Any help greatly appreciated. Otrman (Henry)
  21. How to run DCS in Windowed Mode I am just getting started, have 3 32" Acer monitors running at 2560x1440, Vsynch, and using only 1 monitor active. Can I run in windowed mode so that I can use the red x (upper right hand corner) to shutdown. Otrman
  22. I have heard about DCS and am about to download it but have a questions about controller. I am totally new to flight simulation having about 5 months experience with X-plane 11 and have learned to take off, land, and fly sightseeing missions using a flight plan on autopilot with ILS landings. I have flown the Cessna 172 and Cirrus jet. I am 82, USMC vet, retired, and an amateur WWII historian and have been told that DCS is very good. Will you please tell me which controllers (joysticks, throttles, pedals, and/or yokes are natively supported by DCS so I can get started with the P51. Otrman
