MBot Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/44-8/ch5.htm#s1p2 Found this interesting info of air defense techniques by small arms. Of special interest is the volume fire tactic that is used by the M16/M249/M60/M2 class weapons. The "wall of fire", oposed to the tracking fire we currently have in LOMAC. Since Wags hinted that LOBS will include secondary AD guns for vehicles ( and personaly I expect a static M16/AK74 type soldier simmilar as the Igla guy ), I wonder if we will see volume fire in 1.2. 1
MBot Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 Sorry to dig out this old pal. But in the last months we have seen many screenshots of ground units equiped with secondary MGs, so I wondered if there are already any advances in airdefense AI like the volume fire tactic.
GGTharos Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 A lot of stuff is being worked on. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

So, you've never been hit by the machine guns on some of the vehicles in FC? I have, quite a few times. :)
MBot Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 So, you've never been hit by the machine guns on some of the vehicles in FC? I have, quite a few times. :) Actualy not very often. There are no secondary AA guns on vehicles in FC, ground units will only engage with primary guns. And only very few actualy do. I think the list goes something like: LVPT-7 ( 12.7mm ), BTR-70 ( 14mm ), BRDM-2 ( 14mm ), LAV-25 ( 25mm), Warrior ( 30mm ). Thats the best you get of ground fire ( excluding dedicated AD ) in FC. So I am realy looking forward to see more AA fire from the ground troops. Also if volume fire is implemented, it will not only enhance A-G realism alot, but also create a lot more visible and enjoyable AD envoirment ( wall of fire vs. tracking fire, wich often goes unnnoticed from within the aircraft ). Thanks GGTharos, I stay tuned :)
