Charly_Owl Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) After I started working on "Audio from the Past", I decided to see if I could do anything similar with videos. I found enough footage that is both rare and extremely interesting from a historical standpoint. So here it is: a brand new youtube series featuring historical figures like fighter aces Douglas Bader and Johnnie Johnson, Supermarine test pilots Alex Henshaw and Jeffrey Quill, aircraft & engine engineers like Cyril Lovesey and Sir Stanley Hooker and family members of the original Spitfire designer Reginald J. Mitchell. I hope you folks enjoy it! Hood Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Excellent. During the '80s I used to get kicked out of my bedroom so Raymond Baxter could stay. Naturally I didn't at that point have a clue who he was. Hood
Charly_Owl Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Raymond Baxter stayed at your house, Hood? Ha! Interesting! Wanna share the story with us? Oh and by the way... Episode 3 is now online. Meet the Few of No. 501 squadron themselves at their 1969 reunion. Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon

Hood Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Hey Charly nothing really interesting to say - I lived in Farnborough and we used to have various folks stay for the air show. Baxter came back several shows in a row. We even had the replacement crew following this: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/two-killed-in-military-jet-crash-1548578.html For security purposes they kept the aircraft battery in our front porch. Eros Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Seeing all that videos brings tears to my eyes trying to imagine what they all went through and the enormous courage and strength they must have had. Thanks for posting the videos Chuck Owl. 335th_GREros [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Charly_Owl Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) Episode is 5 up, folks. We meet the people who built the Spitfire. Oh, and we also spend some quality time with Alex Henshaw, one of the Spitfire's test pilots. This guy is a legend. Charly_Owl Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 All right, folks. Most of the stuff I have is now online. Only 2 remaining videos in the pipeline are the one with Messerschmitt engineers and another one with russian ace Alexander Pokryshkin. Both will take quite a while because they need proper translation. I have some (very generous) fellas helping me with it, but it will take time. Charly_Owl Posted March 2, 2015 Author Posted March 2, 2015 A whole new bunch of videos have been uploaded. This time, we explore more about the maintenance, manufacturing and fabrication side of aviation history. The next batch will be very interesting, especially for the Yanks among us. Interviews with Bob Hoover, Shorty Rankin (who flew with Hub Zemke's wolfpack), Robin Olds, Bud Anderson and Flying Tiger Tex Hill. We will also have some interesting stuff about bomber fabrication, aircraft instruments and jet-related stuff (including a special episode on jumbo jet engines a la "How is it made?") Charly_Owl Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Last batch of Videos from the past is out: plenty of good stuff for my american friends this time. Now I'm gonna take a loooong break and probably upload more flight sim-related videos eventually. Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon
Charly_Owl Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 Some of the discussions in the comment sections are quite interesting. In some cases, relatives of the people featured in these videos shared juicy anecdotes :) Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon
