Redglyph Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 (edited) I'm enjoying learning the F-86, and I noticed a few quirks in the training missions. 1) Cold Start No voice over, which is strange because it follows the same structure as the other trainings and in missions 2, 3, ... we can hear the instructor's voice. 2) Taxi If the aircraft is a little too far behind the car, the car makes a U-turn, comes back and crashes into the aircraft. It's weird because I thought the AI would at least make it stop, but no. It just crashed into my wing and went on as if nothing had happened. 3) Take-off The instructions cannot follow the take-off rythm. Once the brakes are released, the instructor's voice is just too late. Fortunately it's possible to see what to do in advance, and a good pilot will have read the manual first of course ;) But still, it feels a bit strange. 4) Landing UPDATE: I think that was coming from my attempt to map the throttle Start/Stop to a button of the throttle control, which is detected ON at start-up if I don't touch the throttle controls quick enough (DCS fails to check the control devices when starting the mission, only does when one of them changes position). I couldn't reproduce the problem once I unmapped this control. [No control over the throttle? It seems this mission freezes the control, at least the throttle and the stick. After a while the stick is given back to the user, but not the throttle which remains on idle/cutoff. After a while, I had to re-start the engine in mid-air to avoid a crash.] 5) Navigation UPDATE: see update above. [Same, the mission starts with the engine shutting down, and it seems the instructor is expecting the pilot to start increasing the RPM to 33%, but he actually has to re-start the engine first. I'm pretty sure it's not on purpose.] When arriving at Sukhumi, during the final approach and after landing, it keeps giving messages like "Your ALTITUDE should be 4500 ft!" and "Your AIRSPEED should be 350 knots!", thus in contradiction with previous directives. Very good idea to provide a navigation training BTW  I'll keep adding as I go along the missions. I'm using DCS version 1.5.4.56500.155. 504smudge Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Hi fella i'm testing these at the moment for you this is what I have so far. i'm doing each tutorial 3 times to see if I get different results. 1) Cold Start No voice over, which is strange because it follows the same structure as the other trainings and in missions 2, 3, ... we can hear the instructor's voice. I'm getting this myself, i'll pass on a report to see if one was added initially, or if it is indeed missing. 2) Taxi If the aircraft is a little too far behind the car, the car makes a U-turn, comes back and crashes into the aircraft. It's weird because I thought the AI would at least make it stop, but no. It just crashed into my wing and went on as if nothing had happened. At what stage does this occur in the Taxi sequence? I've been unable to reproduce this, the AI car seems to stop at certain points if I fall to far behind, and won't start again untill I get about 25 meters behind him again. 3) Take-off The instructions cannot follow the take-off rythm. Once the brakes are released, the instructor's voice is just too late. Fortunately it's possible to see what to do in advance, and a good pilot will have read the manual first of course ;) But still, it feels a bit strange. the instructions come as fast as they can, it's a very quick part of the tutorial, everything happens very quickly at that point. it's as good as they can get it I guess, without having to pause the tutorial to talk you through the next step Eagles may soar but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. https://www.youtube.com/user/504smudge https://www.facebook.com/504smudge
Redglyph Posted October 23, 2016 Author Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) Hi fella i'm testing these at the moment for you this is what I have so far. i'm doing each tutorial 3 times to see if I get different results. 1) I checked in the mission files, there is nothing so I suppose it was simply not made (or not packaged in the delivery). 2) It's near the beginning, I was struggling to steer on the very first time, and by the time I had my first turn to rejoin the car, it did that. I had a similar problem with another aircraft, so it could be something with the AI, I'm not sure there is a way to avoid it. I'm not yet familiar enough with scripting to investigate that though. 3) It's probably tricky, indeed. The fact they are too late makes them irrelevant though, so it would be best to find another way, like preparing it and reducing the instructions in the heat of the action. Most other take-off trainings seem to put all the instructions when at the runway start, before the actual take-off.
