5 PARAGRAPH OPERATIONS ORDER FOLLOWS:

THE DOG EAR COLLECTOR

MISSION:

FIND AND DESTROY ENEMY DOG EAR SURFACE TO AIR DEFENSE SITES.

SITUATION:

ENEMY SIT TEMP:

THE ENEMY IS USING A TIERED SURFACE TO AIR MISSILE DECK THAT IS CONTROLLED BY MULTIPLE SEARCH RADAR SITES (SEE SLIDE 3). AT THE FRONT OF THEIR LINES MULTIPLE DOG EAR SAM SITES EXIST. INTELLIGENCE INDICATES THAT THESE SITES MOST LIKELY CONSIST OF A DOG EAR SEARCH RADAR SYSTEM THAT IS PROVIDING GUIDANCE TO MULTIPLE SA-13 AND ZSU-23 AA SYSTEMS (SEE SLIDE 4). THE DOG EAR SEARCH RADAR SYSTEMS ARE PROVIDING CRITICAL GUIDANCE TO THE SA-13 SAMs, HOWEVER ONCE THE DOG EAR SEARCH RADAR IS DESTROYED THE SA-13s WILL BE LIMITED TO THEIR INTERNAL THERMAL TARGETING SIGHTS. THESE LOW ALTITUDE SAM AND AA SYSTEMS PROVIDE AN UNEXCEPTABLE THREAT TO LOW FLYING AIRCRAFT OPERATING IN THE AREA SUCH AS U.S. ARMY ATTACK AND TRANSPORTATION HELICOPTERS. ENEMY SURFACE TO AIR MISSILE THREATS IN THE AREA ALSO INCLUDE SA-10, SA-11, SA-15, SA-19 BUT THESE SYSTEMS ARE MOST LIKELY ALL OPERATING BEHIND THE DOG EAR SITES AND HAVE ASSIGNED ALTITUDE ENGAGEMENT GUIDELINES (SEE SLIDE 3).

S-2 RECOMMENDED TTP FOR ENGAGING DOG EAR RADAR SYSTEMS:

ONCE YOUR AIRCRAFT RECIEVES A DOG EAR RADAR SPIKE, TURN THE AIRCRAFT DIRECTLY AT THE SITE AND PLACE YOUR TGP 4-5 MILES STRAIGHT OUT INFRONT OF YOUR AIRCRAFT. THEN IMMEDIATELY TURN AWAY FROM THE SITE SO IT CANNOT ENGAGE YOUR AIRCRAFT. BACK OFF FROM THE TGP POINT TO 10 MILES AND BEGIN SEARCHING FOR THE DOG EAR SYSTEM AND THE UNITS IT IS DIRECTING.

EXECUTION:

6 X A-10C IN FLIGHTS OF TWO AIRCRAFT EACH WILL SEARCH WAYPOINTS 3, 4, AND 5 AND DESTROY ENEMY DOG EAR SITES AS THEY ARE ENCOUNTERED.

Just a heads up for the mission I posted above. It's a SEAD mission so its not for the faint of heart ;) The enemy FLOT is pretty much illustrated by the flight plan: don't go east of the waypoints. If you fly too high you'll piss off the SA-10 and 11s but they are all east of the waypoints.

The goal of this mission was to emulate the way a real integrated SAM Deck would work (obviously in the real world they don't just stay on all the time: thats like being an Infantryman at night with a white light on :)) The search radars are well east of the FLOT and they "handoff" to SAM systems once you are within their engagement zones. Different SAM systems will turn on based on how high your aircraft is (again why waste an expensive SA-10 missile when an SA-15 will do). The goal of the mission is just to knock out the Dog Ear search radars and their SA-13s/ZSU-23s. The mission is a great with a wingman (working together with the SPI share and IR Point). Hope you all enjoy it. :thumbup:

Something a bit different... I do believe I am about to be shot down a few times!

You'll be alright, just keep you're situational awareness up: pay attention to where you are on the TAD :D

Anyone tried this yet? What's the verdict? Yay or Nay?

Finally got around to flying this mission. It was pretty hectic and a lot of fun.

I had no fewer than 19 SA-11 launches at me, plus a lot of AAA dodging when trying to PID some Shilkas after running out of Mavericks.

Ended up killing two Dog Ears, and four Strelas. Then having to RTB due fuel.

Unfortunately I struggled to employ the CBUs but the location was too hot at the end of my time on station with seemingly everything getting shot at me just east of WPT3.

Thanks for the mission, it was nice for something a bit different and I gained some good experience from flying this one!
