Thinking about updating Graphics card, with all the developments going on in DCS does the programming favour Nvidia or AMD .......

Also can any recommend a mid range cost option .... I am running Win7, Ssd drive, 8gb DDR3 and a 2.8 intel Quad processor

Any advice greatly received only I read that DCS is about to dramatically change there graphics modelling and wanted to future proof any purchase

Thanks

As it is now, Nvidia is a much better card for DCS.

How it will work out after the new gfx engine comes out, we don't know.

And there's now such thing as "future proofing" ;)

Instead of saying mid range cost, it would be easier if you put a maximum amount you wanna use on a card :)

I'd say go for a GTX 680 or above. Got my 770 for £215.99 which is a great price. The only slight worry I have is that it's the 2GB version. The 4GB ones were £300+ but then you're getting close to 780 prices.

For 1920x1080 though a 770 will be fine.

I know the future proofing statement, what I meant was didn't wNt to flash out 250 for a card that will last 6 months until the new engine comes out.

By mid range I mean not extreme, I suppose what I really mean. Is as my current card is an Nvidia 260GTX 1g card hard for about 3 years ....

There are 2g, 3G and 4g I can assume the largest is preferred by running a reasonable system just that current card freezes mid mission sometimes which is probably due to the DX11 update

So was jus wondering which card is a reasonable card to see out the next 18m to 2 yrs?

It depends on what resolution you're playing at but like I said, I wouldn't go slower than a GTX 680. Go for a 770, 780, 780Ti or Titan depending on your budget.

Here in the UK you can get a 770 for ~£240, a 780 for ~£360, a 780Ti for ~£520 or a Titan for ~£800.

2GB is fine for 1080p. 3GB for 1440p and 4-6GB will be fine for 4k, although you'd probably need to go SLI to get good frame rates at that resolution.
