Mission Planner: Can a Group Activate Itself?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I'm deconstructing (OK, cheating on) a certain A-10C single-player mission and I noticed that one of the threat groups activates itself. The flight, call it THRT, takes off and flies into a trigger zone. The trigger is set up so that when THRT enters the zone, THRT gets activated. Any idea what purpose this serves? The waypoints are already set up for search and attack. I'm wondering if this is a mistake in the mission and another action or group should get activated.

Just FYI, this is one of the missions that comes with A-10C. Otherwise, I would just ask the person who wrote the mission directly.

Thanks,

Paul

Edit: I guess there aren't any real spoilers here, so the mission I'm asking about is CSAR.miz.

Edit 2: I meant Mission Editor, duh. (Mission Planner is yet another flight related program I use).

Sounds weired. If THRT is not active, it can not follow any waypoints and thus the trigger would not fire.

I would rather expect that if any unit flies into the trigger zone the THRT gets activated and as a result, flies to the trigger zone as well (to engage the unit that caused the trigger to fire).

What are the exact conditions for the trigger that activates THRT?

Hi Flagrum,

Here is how the trigger is set up:

TYPE:

1 ONCE (THRT 4 ACT, NO EVENT)

CONDITION

PART OF GROUP IN ZONE (THRT 4, THRT 4 ZONE)

ACTIONS

GROUP ACTIVATE (THRT 4)

Thanks,

Paul

Yes, this looks like you described it ... and thus, to me, this makes no sense. Perhaps there is something that makes this usefull in combination with other triggers that deal with that group? But I can't think of anything like that. Atm my bet would be on "that's an error".
