VIMANAMAN Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) I’m reasonably familiar with standard NDB homing / the DCS presets and have got on fine with adding my own in the ME… …but now I want to use specific freqs to add to a mission – the guard / emergency freqs as I understand things are 121.50mhz / 243mhz (the old ELT’s anyway). I can currently receive any .ogg file I place in the ME fine on these frqs, on all radios in the frequency range, i.e - the AN/ARN-82 set (for those like me who find these names confusing - in cockpit label NAV-COMM), the AN/ARC-134 (in cockpit label VHF) and the AN/ARC-51BX set (in cockpit label UHF). But a bit of research leads me to believe that SAR Air Teams can home on these frequencies? Am I missing some know-how (most likely), or is a specialist radio required that we don’t have to play with? The two sets that are easy to home on i.e. – AN/ARC-131 set – (in cockpit label FM) & AN/ARN-83 (in cockpit label ADF) are (as I understand it) not capable of receiving these frequencies? Can anyone help / shed any light on guard freq homing? / Homing using the 51 / 82 / 134 sets (more specifically) :) (Merely from curiosity anyone know why the guard frequencies – 243.00 & 121.5 are multiples of each other? i.e. 121.5 x 2 = 243 - Is this some bizarreness of radio frequencies, or what:) Edited April 13, 2014 by VIMANAMAN typoooooooo
