Assignment Issue

The autopilot and weapons do not function in my huey. So I delete the saved game dcs folder. I run a repair on DCS just to be sure it is completely default. I do a test flight completely stock and everything works. I assign some basic axis and autopilot/weapons immediately stop working. I check the assignments and everything is ok. I have only applied a few axis and no buttons at this point. Anyone have any advice for me? Only started with 1.2.8. Only using a generic gamepad at this point because DCS cannot even handle my serious peripherals without completely spazzing out and even with my simple little xbox gamepad the sim spazzes out entirely. Very annoying when all you want to do is fly.
