Hey guys!

I recently got DCS up and running pretty smoothly, but I only get severe lag when I'm facing AI aircraft or other players in multiplayer. If I look away, I get great frames, but when I immediately face them, the game lags.

This reminds of FSX and playing on vatsim. I'd fly the NGX, a high-poly plane, and if I didn't change the settings, every other aircraft would also be the high-poly plane, lagging my entire sim up.

Is there any way I could lower the model detail for other players/AI in DCS?

-Thanks

That sounds unusual. Is this on the ground or in the air? Some airports have a FPS issue so that might be the actual problem.

If you still need to lower detail I think the only option is lowering the detail of all objects, you can't just adjust other aircraft in the standard options.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

Find graphics.lua in your DCS folder. Edit it with notepad++ and change all 3 "lodMult = X" to "lodMult = 0.3". It will gain you some performance with newer models.

If you need more on this topic search forum for "performance guide".

It's both. I have also noticed that while I sit on the tarmac, the game lags a lot, but when I hover slightly above, it becomes very smooth.

Thank you! I'll try this out and I'll look at the performance guide as well.

It also depends with what you fly. If you fly air to ground you will loose a lot of detail. Some older models of trucks will be invisible until very close. There is a bad mix of new and old models in game and they have different LOD values. New are too much detailed (IMO) and old don`t have same LOD logic. So when changing "lodmult" value you change it for all.

If you fly mainly fighters it won`t bother you. You will see less objects on airports, but it will greatly improve your FPS.

In air to ground planes or helicopters you will see everything through cockpit displays (I think threre are no LOD values there, everything is drawn at any distance), but some bad model will be invisible through cockpit glass until 20 meters.
