Questions about the block diagram of the IFF system

The Mig-21 is equipped with SRZO and SOD-57 according the flight manual, additional there is an IFF switch (RV4).

Could anyone know how the SRZO and SOD-57 work and which device is powered by the IFF switch? How do we use those devices in a mission?

When the IFF button on the radar control panel is pushed, will the SRZO or SOD-57 be used to interrogate the radar contacts

On the other side, if a Mig-21 is interrogated, which device is used to respond the interrogator?

The IFF systems aren't really modelled. You can switch the related systems on and your radar will be able to identify friend or foe, however none of the settings will have any effect on the actual behaviour.

This doesn't quite answer the question, however.

First of all, what does the IFF button return? Just red/blue that the omniscient AI sees? (So even a P-51 could return a friendly, despite having no compatible equipment)

Second, if IFF is not implemented at all...who's pinging my MiG-21? That SOD lamp keeps blinking. But I'm not sure if that device is just for ATC to know where you are (does something like this exist in the A-10C? Or is this a first in DCS?), or if it does something else.

The MiG-21 is a very mysterious device in DCS. An updated manual would be very helpful.

Yes, it is just red/blue. There is no advanced IFF functionality that would mimic real world behaviour.

It "simulates" the behaviour a (ATC) IFF system would have.

My tests showed, that light will only blink if you have a RSBN station tuned. There could be some more possibilities now. But at least back then AI aircraft and SAM systems didn't trigger it.
