BTW, how were the Sparrow and AMRAAM chaff resistence tuned? is it donne the same way? I can see how ED left the Sparrow with a better rejection that the 120? o_O

All missile types are tuned in the same way, AFAIK (ie. AARH, SARH).

Chaff resistance on ARH is -better- than on SARH, but there exist convoluted issues which may make it not look like it.

SARH can be, under some circumstances, 2.5-3x as susceptible to chaff as ARH.

nothing much to add about the weapons modeling as I am relatively new to LOMAC FC, just wanted to say that I have played more than one sim with TWS [janes f/a 18 and f-15] and the state of the TWS in the F15 in LOMAC 1.12a is pretty sad [as most others have said]

almost to the point of going to arcade radar.

go to the bugs forum and see the "is the TWS going to be fixed" post

the main reason I got LOMAC gold was the single western fighter they have.

in a situation where all we can do is make our voice heard I guess Ive done all i can do :icon_jook

Now that i have a better grasp of notching and beaming. I firmly believe the F-15 radar has some bugs.

TWS mode, BVR, 300agl or lower. Radar cone adjusted so that his altitude is exactly in the middle. As target approaches at a higher altitude, the more experienced pilots try to beam, but im lower than him and the gate on my doppler is gone (in theory) because im "looking up". Sure enough, when they beam, poof, gone off radar. It doesnt happen all the time, but it does happen. Usually i quickly switch back to RWS and he'll pop back up, then i'll lock him to get the automatic cone adjustments. Fox 2!

It can be worked, but it would be nice if i didnt have to switch back to RWS. Especially with multiple bandits. Edit: Basically i have found that the only thing TWS is good for is getting an altitude on the bandit without locking.

I've been using TWS pretty effectively ... from 20k agl against bandits at all altitudes. However I don't make the mistake of stayign in TWS when I have targets closer than about 10-15nm. That's practice in the USAF too, from what I've heard, as the autocentering isn't necessarily good enough to keep up when the cone's this narrow.

Once the AMRAAM gets fixed youll have a better time at these ranges because no longer will the bandit fight you ignoring the missiles on their way, theill be fighting the missiles, thus remaining designated on radar.

Wow, i wouldnt even think of using TWS to engage bandits from 20k (most will beam and lose lock, then you gotta go re-lock them again.. PITA! i do use it for reference though). I dont even fire at anything more than 10 miles away with the current state of the AMRAAM unless i want to get him defensive (i have other tactics i dont discuss though :D ). Matter of fact, since most of these guys know how to beam pretty well, coming in from above in any mode is rather useless from what i have experienced. Most of my kills are from the weeds. I dont know how the real APG-63 performs, but from reading some of the posts, i understand its exceptional in "look-down, shoot-down" IRL. I'd say im about 20% effective in look-down, shoot-down in LOFC online, and 80% effective coming in from the weeds. Again, all my observations were from online play. Single player is a no brainer with TWS.

edit: I did learn one thing though the other day. Visual AMRAAM shots were 90% effective. Works better than TWS for multiple bogies. Have no idea how its supposed to be IRL. But if anyone does decide to use this tactic, please be sure you dont fling ARAAM's into a furbal with friendlys....

They can beam all they want ... I suppose it may be different for you if you fly solo .... I don't, so I need a very good picture, which the weeds do not provide.

Using high altitude also means longer shots, and I've taken out bandits with 40nm shots before (though my absolute record is around 55-60nm online).

Thats freakin awesome... gives me faith. Was this in 1.02 or 1.12a? When i first started flying LOFC online, i was coming in at 42k just for the range. Wasnt working so well for me as it took 3 AMRAAMS with the steering dot centered to get a hit. Now that i use "different tactics" adapting to the advantages and weaknesses im discovring in LOFC, my kills are gradually increasing over the number of my deaths when i leave a server... lol

I been flying online for a little over a week and had the game maybe 2 weeks. So im kinda new to the community to get some wingmen. But IA Scorpion and i have been flying alot lately in the past few days together so i do understand your point. We are just now developing our styles (edit: well at least I am, Scorpion is really good). I have quite a few 54th getting setup to fly online and add to the LOFC community. So once they get up to speed, im sure high altitude ops will be much easier....

Check out our LOFC thread i started on our site. Feel free to join in...

Sometimes people suffer 'duh' moments of disbelief which is what i believe happened with that pilot. We were coming at each other at high mach, I was at 55K, he was at 45K in a flanker, head-on.

I don'tr ecall the version ... but when that missile went active, it was too late ;)

My TTI was well over a minute! This was -absolutely- an exceptional shot.
