Archer7 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 It’s easy to fly the A-10C with the Warthog HOTAS since it is plug and play. However when flying the A-10A I noticed how the EAC switch for example only executes an action when set to the up position and not also the down positions which degrades usability. It seems to me that the best thing would be if ED made it so the game automatically detects both on and off action on the HOTAS multi-position switches so we easily can use all switch positions with any aircraft. However the other obvious solution would be to very slowly bind all commands on the HOTAS to keyboard keys so the EAC switch up is bound to LALT+4 and down to LALT+5 which will turn it on/off in the A-10A… The issue then is that you would have to use separate profiles for every single aircraft. Maybe it would be easier to bind all HOTAS switches to something abstract such as binding the HOTAS EAC up to LCTRL+A and down to LCTRL+B, then bind LCTRL+A/LCTRL+B to the EAC functions in the A-10A and maybe something completely different in the UH-1H? Does anyone have a good set of profiles for all aircraft (though I’m probably going to have to spend a lot of time modifying them to suit my own tastes eventually) or does anyone have a universal profile as I described above where all HOTAS buttons and switches are bound to meaningless obscure keyboard commands so you can still use your keyboard as usual for example G for gears up/down at the same time as a HOTAS button is bound to LCTRL+G and also activates gears up/down in-game? If I understand correctly you have to start TARGET and activate a profile every time you want to use a profile, is that correct? Is there any way to have a profile automatically activate when you start your computer maybe? It would be very useful if you use an abstract universal profile at the very least.
Archer7 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Basically, how do I use all 75 buttons on my Warthog HOTAS in DCS? Using default DX it only seems you can use 40 so about 35 would have to be bound to keyboard keys meaning you wouldn't be able to use the actual keyboard keys without conflict... I can see many threads about this issue: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3593984/TARGET_vs_DirectX.html Any solution yet? It's a pissy issue.
Archer7 Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 I'm not sure how your system works but I've successfully created a desktop shortcut that starts DCS, TARGET and activates a universal profile that should work with any aircraft with one click. Basically 40 joystick and throttle commands are bound to DX-1-40 and 6 non-hold joystick commands (CMS, Disengage) and all throttle quadrant commands which of only two are hold (Ignite) are bound to keyboard key commands (LALT + RALT + Variable) which hopefully shouldn’t cause any crash issues that I’ve heard of and shouldn’t cause conflicts and I can still use the keyboard normally except there may be conflicts if I depress a throttle quadrant switch and a keyboard key simultaneously. After setting all of that up you only have to enter DCS and bind stuff however you want similar to plug and play except you will be able to use all 75 switch positions instead of only a dozen (neutral positions) less. So all I have to do now is bugtest it.
todd022 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Archer...this sounds very exciting. Please post when available! [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Archer7 Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Works except for the flaps because there are no "flaps up position", "flaps manoeuvre position" and "flaps down position" commands. Moving the flaps controls up/down only moves the flaps one step up/down. Still haven’t tested deliberate conflicts or other aircraft, may need time. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2222072#post2222072
