Hi,

I know this is a subject that has been passed many times before, however I have tried pretty much every single option / solution that I have found online.

Therefore I'm asking for your help!

My situation;

1) PC behind hub to router to modem

2) PC on a fixed IP (10.0.0.225)

3) Router has port 10308 forwarded TCP/UDP to .225 (my PC)

4) Windows Firewall is managed by McAfee LiveSafe firewall, with exclusions to DCS.exe (all protocols not port limited)

5) Virusscanner livescan off

6) Also tried with Firewall off

7) I have let people do a direct IP connect and it doesn't show up in the list

I'm feeling a bit hopeless, what can I do to make my missions available?

Thank you so much in advance

You mention that your modem is setup for port forwarding, but you make no mention of your router.

Typically port forwarding is setup on the router and not the modem. Can you post some SS of your router config - namely port forwarding page?

Also take a look here:

Thank you for your quick reply. I made an error, I meant it is forwarded on my router.

We run a private build router with PfSense 2.1.3-RELEASE(i386) installed.

I noticed that the router also has own DNS servers, do they need to be the same as my own?

No, unless you are using name resolution.

Do you have a second PC/laptop/device connected to the same network?

If you do, you will want to try connecting direct to your "server" via port 10308. This will first tell you if your host based firewall is blocking traffic or not.

With McCaffee, even if it is disabled or off it can still block traffic.

You can google how to enable telnet on newer versions of windows

telnet 10.0.0.225 10308

Or you can use:

http://code.google.com/p/paping

paping.exe 10.0.0.225 -p 10308 -c 4

Your first step is identifying where communication fails and then we can figure out how to fix it.

No, you want it on the same network behind the external IP.

Basically we want to rule out if McCaffee is blocking traffic or not.

So you want to connect to 10.0.0.225 via port 10308 with a computer on the same network/LAN. If successful, then we know that your server is good and we can start digging into your port forwarding.

I have to leave now, but I have installed Telnet on both devices. And installing DCS on the other laptop (which is going to take a while) I'll get back in this topic as soon as I have executed your tests.

Thank you for now! :)

No sweat, and you don't need to install DCS - that can come in handy later.

Having DCS running on the "server" and then having another machine "ping" via a specific port it will tell us if the "server" is listening on that port or denying traffic.

I just got back and performed the Telnet test from my secondary device. I had the DCS server running on the main pc.

I executed: 0 10.0.0.225 10308 which gave a positive connection.

Nevermind didn't fix it, apparently there was a weird gateway set in the PFsense advanced setup. I altered it to match it.

This inspired me: If this is on a WAN that is not the default gateway, make sure there is a gateway chosen on this WAN interface, or the firewall rules for the port forward would not reply back via the correct gateway.

I think the reason I saw my server was because it was within the network, so it has no issues seeing that.

A couple of minutes after I changed the settings I couldn't connect to the internet anymore (still the network obviously).

Final edit:

Apparently DMZ was turned off in my modem, so the router couldn't fully do its job. With that turned on and my firewall on my pc turned off (even while having exceptions), it finally works now! :D
