Svend_Dellepude Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Isn't the missile impact timer in the lower left of the HUD supposed to be dynamic to better reflect real time to impact with aspect changes of target during missile flight? What i mean is: If i launch a Sparrow at a head on aspect target and the timer says 9 sec until impact and the target then changes its aspect, the missile is obviously gonna take more time to get to it's target. But the timer doesn't reflect this and will continue the countdown until it reaches zero and then stop. So often you will find yourself with an airborne missile but no idea of where it is in relation to it's target. ARH is a different matter since you can drop the lock but in case of the SARH you are tracking your target all the way, so the system (FCR) should be able to calculate this a little better. 104th_Maverick Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 No, its based on the conditions at missile launch. So if he doesnt move and maintains his speed, aspect and attitude the missile will get him at the time 0. However if he starts moving this will increase the missiles time to target, which is why you often see time 0 and no missile impact because most pilots start reacting after the STT aim7 launch. Svend_Dellepude Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 In game, yes. But wouldn't you expect the real deal to be able to calculate this, or at least an approximation? I would.. Sorry based on this I thought you were talking about the sim not real life. In real life I'd expect him to fire an AMRAAM :) I don't know if the real aircraft would recalculate the time to target, possibly the newer radars but someone else will need to confirm that. Svend_Dellepude Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 ;2278236'] In real life I'd expect him to fire an AMRAAM :) Of course! :) I just have a thing for the Sparrow. The way it slowly, but steadily accelerates towards it's target, with a fat smoketrail after it. 104th_Maverick Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I never leave the ground without 2 onboard as I too am a big fan! Its a fantastic missile when delivered properly, I tend to never fire it outside of 5nm so I get a very high PK with it, especially when double tapped with another Aim7 a split second after the first launch... safety first!!! Svend_Dellepude Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 :D Yeah! F-15 and Sparrow belongs together. Usually i bring 4 AIM-7, 2 slammers and 2 sidewinders. Lately i tried 4 sparrows and 4 sidewinders to get that 80's feel, without big succes though..
