In many MP games, prior to joining a server running a map/mission which is not present at the local client's machine, the client downloads that map/mission. Often the user can run that map/mission himself from then on as a copy is stored locally.

I imagine DCS works the same yet I can't find a cache where .MIZ files are downloaded to. Is it possible to copy the server's .MIZ file for my own future use by joining a session? I've noticed that joining a public server which is at that time running a map I don't have takes significantly longer so there must be some sort of downloading going on.

rename the .trk file that's saved after joining the mission to .miz. Optionally, open it in the mission editor and resave to ditch the extra track stuff. I personally have no problem with this, but some people flip their lids over it.
