Recommended Posts

I've put a training mission on line. I recommend you play-back the basic LockOn training videos first.

Briefing:

Welcome to our training session. This morning we will test the following skills:

1. CDI usage

2. TOT accuracy

3. Bombing accuracy.

Read this briefing carefully.

You are tasked to destroy three BMP-3 vehicules at

the Krikuna bombing range some 34 miles north-west of your home base Krasnodar-centre.

We plotted a route that zig-zag's between the various SAM sites between Krasnodar and

the bombing range. It is therefor critical to stay on course. Simply heading for the

proper waypoint is not enough since you will enter the SAM's threat circle.

After take-off break through the cloud- layer (between 4000-8000ft) and climb to your

cruising altitude of 9000ft. Follow the waypoints and check the TOT indicator in the HUD.

Your mission also comprises an OA-10A that will take off just before you. He will fly

FAC by releasing flares right on top of the target. This will help you locate and target

the BMP-3's.

You may fly in formation with the FAC plane but you should fall back between waypoint 4

and 5 (attack point) and keep a distance of approx. 3nm between you and the FAC plane.

This basically means that your TOT must be at least four minutes late.

Once the FAC plane illuminates the target it should be easy to spot. It is placed in one

of the circles made out of white containers. Drop the bombs in two or three runs.

Hitting a container means mission failure so it is advised not to use ripple modes.

After the target has been destroyed head for waypoint 6 and follow the programmed route

to your home base. The OA-10A flying with you today cellebrates its 100th sortie and

fellow squadron members have planned an appropriate welcome-home surprise.

Two OA-10A's will take off around 07:00hrs to start the show. If all goes well you should

be back in time.
