I was experiencing crashes when I tried to join servers and I usually got the "connection interrupted" message.

I've just discovered that this was caused by UPnP not opening the port 10308 automatically (or was conflicting with DCS in other ways). I just opened 10308 manually and now everything works as expected.

Also, I recommend opening the following ports for DCS> TCP: 443 and 5222 UDP: 10307 through 10312. Also, create rules/disable any firewalls that might be blocking traffic.

I recommend using eMule in order to check whether ports are properly forwarded or not. I used several different port scanners but they all gave me false negatives (port closed, when it really wasn't), from what I've seen, eMule is the only software that properly detects the state of my ports. I'm sure BitMaster here can provide better ways of doing this...

Using uPNP is a BAD THING and always was.

Dont use it ! Many trojans trigger the ports too and off your data flows !!!

Neither use WPS for WLAN, a known security hole, just like uPNP.

I am curious to know what router you use that blocks or filters outbound.

LOL, I quit wireless connections long ago, in my house only wired connections are allowed, LOL.

Well, perhaps UPnP was bad, but it was the only way for my router to open ports reliably until the new firmware came along. Anyway, neither my ISP's router manual nor the manufacturer's (Comtrend) manual explain how to forward ports. It's a little bit trickier than with other routers I've owned, it gives an error if the proper interface isn't selected (the proper interface isn't obvious, btw). Also, my ISP provides some shitty router configuration service that doesn't work in some aspects so you have to disable that service in order to enter the router configuration in the usual way (192.168.1.1>user and password)

Anyway, now everything seems to work well and I don't need UPnP anymore (we'll see for how long, LOL).
