Kalastaja Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Hey. I know that the F-15 has a total of 120 degrees of scan zone 60 degrees left and 60 degrees right. Does the F-15 have elevation gimbal limits? Like 60 degrees up and 60 degrees down.
SDsc0rch Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 and... is there a visual indication that communicates to you that the radar contact is approaching the vertical gimbal limit? (( ps.. to answer your question, "yes" there are elevation gimbal limits - and i believe they are similarly +/- 60-deg )) i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Exorcet Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 The F-15 has vertical limits. I don't remember what the angles are, but there are altitude limits of 61,000 ft and 0 ft. If something is flying at 62000 ft, you can't lock it no matter what I believe. FLANKERATOR Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 If you mean antenna vertical gimbal limits, I think it's around 40 degrees up and down. Situational Awareness: https://sa-sim.com/ | The Air Combat Dojo: https://discord.gg/Rz77eFj

SDsc0rch Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 are there any indications in the cockpit that show if you are approaching a vertical gimbal limit?? i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
AceRevo Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I dont really think so, except looking at the VSD. When youre at high altitudes, you can set it to 10nm and you'll see you wont be able to scann down to ground/sea level and vice verca. X-55 profile for the F-15C
GGTharos Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 That's just a display limit, and I'm not sure if it's correct. The F-15 has vertical limits. Exorcet Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 That's just a display limit, and I'm not sure if it's correct. It certainly does seem like a fatal flaw when you try to shoot down a Kh-22 in the sim, but then again I guess that would be the F-14's job. SDsc0rch Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 yeah, i ask the question because i don't see any way to know if you're about to loose a low- or high-flyer would be nice to have such an indication would be nice to know if the real jet has that...... i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
