drhyed Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Im basically computer illiterate otherwise Id love to tackle a project like this. It might be impossible but it would be awesome to have a single (mono color) mfd, a cdu for nav and radio input, a electronic warfare display (the circular missile/radar display) hud upgrade and some type of radar improvement. Also incorporate a basic gps nav, not a moving map but the ability to display current location, enter way points and have a basic data base of known locations like airfields. Would it be possible to pull much of the info from the mig 29A and nerf down the radar?
OnlyforDCS Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Possible? Yes. Likely? No. An avionics suite upgrade, with the corresponding systems programming, 3d art, texturing and animation is HUGE amount of work for any developer, let alone a modder. AFAIK the current version is still in BETA. Also LN have other aircraft projects in the pipeline. So unless Leatherneck decides to release it as some kind of 'upgrade' or DLC or even a new stand alone module (since its basically a new plane that makes most sense) I can't see it happening. Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
King_Hrothgar Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Yeah, this isn't in the modding territory. Swapping cockpit label language or altering the base color is one thing but you're asking for an entirely new plane. The MiG-21-97, as an example, uses a MiG-29's engine, MiG-29's radar, reinforces the airframe and does all sorts of things to the cockpit. Even the windshield and canopy are changed. I would like to see LNS offer some additional Russian designs, preferably a little more modern than the MiG-21Bis and one of these upgrades does fit that desire. But it isn't a small task. If we say the MiG-21 costs $50, then a MiG-21 upgrade could be fairly priced at $30-40 for current owners and the full $50 for everyone else. That's how much work is involved.
