Using Y axis of Joystick as collective Need Help with curve

Picked up a cheap joy stick to try and use as a collective, its flyable using the curve posted by "Shagrat" but it was made to be used with a HOTAS, I was hoping maybe someone has a better curve or some suggestions.

Thanks

Jay

It's going to depend on what feel your joystick is giving you. It seems to me you would want a linear curve but if that curve in your photo is working for you then fine. The idea is to find delicate control near your hover point. The problem with that is your weight changing. I, too, have the HOTAS but my curve is completely linear (curve = 0) and I fly (collectively) very well: smooth control at all times. (Cyclic is another matter but that's due to poor pilot input. :)

The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

I just got the standard curve with about 20 to 25% curvature set to it. It might be in some manual that this is the best solution for helicopters. But I use the Logitech G940, wich is totally different. I noticed that in the beginning near the center, you've got a big 'jump' to 13. I wouldn't do that, because I think it will make your collective very jumpy right near the beginning. Or has it a different effect?

Price of stick doesn't really matter at first. Saitek usually has good quality sticks. But cheap joysticks tend to wear out very fast. But it is a great and inexpensive way to see if this is a good hobby for you.

Happy Flying! :pilotfly:
