The single line, or channel 1 is used to communicate with a specific flight so weither that be 2-8 aircraft

The double line, or channel 2 is used by the flight lead to communicate with other flight leads

The triangle, or channel 3 is used to contact a specific tower and/ or home base, also used in conjunction with the AFN-2 and FuG16zy but both of those systems are not yet implemented.

The square, or channel 4 is used to communicate with the ground based radar system used by the germans in WW2 to direct flights or aircraft onto enemy aircraft or onto correct bearings to airfields in case of emergencies.

The fine tune knob is used to get a correct signal depending on range and altitude from the receiver.

You can adjust each frequency in the mission editor but unless a mission editor implements it in channel 3 its pretty useless unless you like communicating with other players via the message system in DCS right now.

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.
