Yeah...it was an exagerration. I don't think the post was meant to be scientific, but it does illustrate the tendancy toward overreaction here. ;)

OK...and now for something completely different. :D

But, the point is, in the English-speaking world, the word "ignorant" IS considered to be a derogatory or insulting word. ;)

It isn't to me... and I don't think that I'm that abnormal an English speaking person. :)

Guys... this is what he posted and this is what he posted with malice...

"Fighter Ops is looking more and more attractive every day. Unless of course Yo-Yo has a hand in their development."

That will not be tolerated here period... I don't care if he knows what "ignorant" means or not... the above is probably the worst and most direct insult made to a member of the development team I have seen here.

SK... why is his opinion so important to you?

FWIW... he's the first member I have banned on the .ru forum so my "moderation" shouldn't be in question here.

Shep, it was a chain of misunderstandings...he thought SK was being insulted, so he insulted back (with sarcasm, BTW). It was all cleared up in the end. I know I'm not supposed to question your decisions, but everything might have been cool if you guys had given it just a little more time. I realize its hindsight on my part though...it COULD have gotten ugly too, but I'd be willing to bet it wouldn't have. ;)

Hi,

I understand your point but thinking SK was being insulted does not give him the right to insult Yo-Yo in the manner he did. He should know better and now he does. If he wants to come back after his vacation he's more then welcome and I'm sure he won't make the same error in judgement again if he does return.

His rant thread was stopped and deleted in a hurry at Ubi so that should send a further message that this isn't acceptable.

Yeah, sometimes I think around here, the moderation could use a little moderation.

With capttrob unable to reply, I've got no closure! Is he satisifed? Is he sorry? Who knows? It's like after 9/11 - who do you punish, when the terrorists went and killed themselves? (besides Iraq, of course) How come I have to do all the apologizing alone here?!

I guess this is the way to punish me, since I would probably enjoy being banned... :)

IMO -banning should be the last resort - if moderators disagree with a post it should be censored, thread closed if necessary, and the one that posted receive a PM by a moderator and perhaps get suspended for a week or more.

I don't think it was OK to ban him.

I don't see his UBI thread as a rant, but its all in perception I suppose. Emotions might have been a bit accelerated with his inability to respond to the lockon.ru thread he started, and he, maybe, would have apologized himself for his part in the misunderstanding if he had still been able to. ;) The only error he made in his comment about Yo-yo was to forget to include a winking smiley after that statement. He meant no harm. It is the rest of his post on the UBI forums that ED should be concerned about, because he is not the only one who feels that way.

I really don't care whether you agree with it or not - like I have said earlier, moderators' decisions are not up for public debate. If you don't understand why he was banned, I suggest you read the forum rules that we are enforcing.....especially the very first paragraph:

"We ask member discussions and product feed-back to be conducted in a courteous and mature manor."

Considering that cattrob on several occasions has accused testers of not conducting themselves in such a manor, you would think that he would be the first to abide by those standards himself.......that was, to say the least, not the case in this thread.

Cheers,

- JJ.

If moderator's decisions are not up for public debate, then perhaps that should be kept from public view. If you guys want to make your decisions based on the rules, that's fine, but there is no need to publicly shout him down, and continue to do so after banning him. If this information is made public, however, well...you should expect a little public debate. Keep your comments on the decision private...well...problem solved.

You are the one that keep debating and trying to make a public spectacle of every moderator decision, despite having been told before that your "input" on these matters is unwelcome.

Since I am not going to just sit back and let you rant about our decisions, it leaves me with three options:

1). respond to it and thereby making our decisions subject for public debate - not going to happen.

2). lock the thread whenever you get this urge regardless of what other contents it might have.

3). tell you, once again, to either quit complaining about moderator decisions or consider finding another forum where the moderation is more to your liking.

Since this thread has deviated pretty far from its original subject on Su-25T drag, I think I will pick option # 2 this time around.
