You'd take a hit, pilot was always alive, plane was going down but controllable, people would just maddog in revenge for being killed. Just get everything off the rails. I remember when Nomad and one of his buddies tried a severe high-low and we caught'em with their pants down ... I launched a missile up at Nomad where he couldn't maneuver, once he was hit, he pitched down and let loose with everything he had (et's and 73's in particular) but didn't hit. Something similar happens today, but it's happens 'just before you get hit' and it's certainly much, much less frequent.
