Schmidtfire Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 With all the new WWII units on the way and all F-86F and Mig-15bis drivers out there, I have an idea for a script to better simulate planes catching fire. The script will work like this: If X amount of aircraft life, there is a Y % chance of a fire (explode unit). For example, let's say that it will take roughly 100 hits to down Mig-15bis. The Mig-15bis is hit 25 times with .50cal APIT rounds resulting in a total aircraft damage of 25%. If the Mig-15bis health is LESS than 76% there is a (let's say) 30% chance of setting the Mig-15bis on fire (or make it explode). Another 25 hits, and there is now a 60% chance... Maybe there is a better way to make the script more random. And obviously, we don't want every plane to go down in a ball of flames either. Just an idea guys :) Im not good enough at scripting to make this a reality.
Ultra Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 For example, let's say that it will take roughly 100 hits to down Mig-15bis. The Mig-15bis is hit 25 times with .50cal APIT rounds resulting in a total aircraft damage of 25%. I think a problem with that is that ED's damage models are already more complex than that (for player aircraft mostly). What if all the hits are in the tail section? It's hard for me to say though, since I don't know all the ways an aircraft would catch fire. It seems bullets would need to hit the fuel tanks, fuel lines, or the engine. And what would cause the difference between a hole in the fuel tank and just a leak vs. an all-out explosion. Seems fairly complicated.
