DracoLlasa Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Sorry if this has been covered, i had a look around and couldn't find anything really. I have been enjoying DCS jets and 'copters for a while, and even though i bought the P-51 module a while ago im just starting to get into it a bit as a prop plane. One thing i found doing some combat training is that when doing horizontal turn (bank and pull) the plane will sometimes do a snap roll or a torque roll i think its called.. from what i have read I guess I'm getting to aggressive and/or too slow in my turn and the plane just flips over. For the most part if have learn to avoid this but sometimes it still happens. What I'm wondering, is not so much how to avoid cause I think I may have that (more feedback always welcome) but when it happens, I end up in a spiraling nose dive. What is the best/proper way try and recover from this, if its even possible? I notice that right and left aileron input and also increase/decrease of MP does seem to increase or decrease the severity of the spin, but once I'm actually in this spinning dive, I have not been able to actually recover to level flight. ZaltysZ Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Check page 116 of the manual. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
DracoLlasa Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Check page 116 of the manual. Are you sure? page 116 is a chapter picture, starting the "Normal Procedures" section. I dont see anything in that section on this topic, I also have reviewed (skimmed) the emergency procedures section of the manual before posting, and I didn't see anything there either... again, it was a skim, I admit i may have missed it [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i5 8600K OC @ 5.0GHz w/ Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler| MSI GTX 1080 OC Edition | 32GB DDR4 3600 | EVO 960 NVMe SSD | WD Black NVMe SSD Win10 X64 | TrackIR 5 | HTC Vive | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and Cougar MFDs | Saitek Combat Pedals
GrapeJam Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Chop throttle, rudder to the opposite direction of the spin, push the stick forward. Standard spin recovery procedure.
DracoLlasa Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Chop throttle, rudder to the opposite direction of the spin This is what i had always tried push the stick forward. Standard spin recovery procedure. I dont think I have tried pushing the stick forward I would always pull back on the stick to bring the nose up, its interesting that pushing forward is what stabilizes it. I have never put the A-10C or anything else into a spinning dive so I never really had to deal with such recovery so it was a bit new to me.. thanks again for the input i will give it a try. Eros Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Yes, you need to drop the nose so wind starts flowing on the wings again to get aileron and elevator control. The snap roll happens when you exceed the critical AoA with abrapt control movements. Pull easy on the stick. You will learn with lots of practice to fly it on the limits. 335th_GREros [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
HeadHunter52 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I let go of the stick for a couple seconds, unless the nose is up, in which case I try to get it down and remove any left/right input. She straightens out well, unless some Jerry Can blows your wing off in the middle of this. When your angle of attack is harsh (yanking the stick), your wings are at the edge of stalling, which is a loss of lift. They won't stall at the same time, so you will get a nasty roll. Try to keep your speed above 225. 250 and above would be the safest speed. When you pull back, don't do it all at once. You can pull fast, but increasing the speed of pull. Watch for the buffeting as your warning that you are about to be screwed. Don't try to stay at the edge of a buffet. When you're knocking and rocking, you've already gone into it too far. Stangs need speed to live. If you have to run away to get it and come back, give it a shot. You have a speed and turn disadvantage built into the 51 because of its original mission - which you're not likely to see much of at all in this sim. Zabuzard Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Use the standard spin recovery procedure. I covered this at 19:33 in this tutorial:
DracoLlasa Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) http://http1.files.eagle.ru/dcs/manuals/DCS-P-51D_Flight_Manual_EN.pdf Thanks for this, i was looking at the version that i saved from the install directory. apparently it was recently updated.. glad to see a new one, i felt there was a lot missing from the one i had been reviewing now i have lots more info to go through Use the standard spin recovery procedure. I covered this at 19:33 in this tutorial: I think i did come across this video when i was searching, but i tend to skip over videos without voice over cause i suck at trying to read and watch. I will go back and give it a watch, thanks Also, HeadHunter52 and Eros, thanks for the info, i will be sure to take this into account as i continue to learn this plane.
