MDAP Livery

Sabres in RAF service were purchased using funds provided by the United States under the MDAP (Mutual Defense Assistance Program), and built/supplied by Canadair Ltd. in Montreal, Canada.

When the RAF brought new types like the Hawker Hunter into service, the Sabres were "returned" to the previous owner, the U.S. Air Force, and immediately sold to other NATO countries like Italy and Yugoslavia.

An interim paint scheme was used while the aircraft were 'in limbo', consisting of a combination of RAF and U.S. markings, with RCAF serial numbers.

While this isn't exactly a tactical livery by any means I thought it was cool and an interesting plot point in history :)

This particular aircraft served with No.66 Squadron, based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse before being struck off charge and scrapped at Lasham, England, in 1973.
